Police have arrested and charged a man accused of using a syringe to rob a pharmacy yesterday.

Around 11.45am (Wednesday 27 March), a 31-year-old man entered a pharmacy on King Street, Sydney, allegedly armed with a blood-filled syringe.

The man threatened staff with the syringe and demanded cash before running from the location with an amount of cash.

Police from The Rocks LAC responded to the incident and commenced investigations, obtaining a description of the alleged offender which was broadcast over the police radio.

A short time later the man was stopped by police attached to City Central LAC at Town Hall Railway Station.

He was subsequently searched and allegedly found to be in possession of an amount of cash and a blood-filled syringe.

The man was arrested and taken to City Central Police Station where he was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today.
