Bankstown police are appealing for information from the public following an armed robbery at Georges Hall. About 7.40pm yesterday, (Sunday 14 August, 2001), a man armed with a handgun and disguised with a balaclava, entered a supermarket in Birdwood Road. The man approached a female employee threatening her before demanding she open the safe. The manager approached the cashier and offender and he was also threatened. When the man was informed they were unable to access the safe he demanded the pair hand over money from the cash registers, which they did. The man left the store with an amount of cash and police were contacted. As a result of the incident no one was injured. The man is described as being aged in his early 20s, Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 163cm tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded jumper, grey track pants and black gloves.
