A police strike force has now been formed to investigate a violent attack on a man at a popular Sydney nightspot at the weekend.

Two male security guards have been charged over the assault on a 19-year-old man at the George Street hotel about 2am yesterday (Sunday 28 August 2011).

The teenager and his friends were ejected from the licensed premises about 1.30am.

They returned to the hotel a short time later and allegedly became involved in a fight with security staff.

The alleged victim was detained by guards and separated from the rest of the group.

It will be alleged he was held down, repeatedly kicked and punched and gagged.

The teenager was then allegedly taken to a basement security area where the assault continued.

Police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics responded to the incident and the alleged victim was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital suffering severe facial injuries.

Two men were arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 30-year-old man appeared in Parramatta Bail Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to reappear in Central Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 30 August 2011).

A 24-year-old man was conditionally bailed to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 20 September 2011.

Police have served a ‘Notice of Urgent Short Term Closure Order’, obtained under Section 82 of the Liquor Act, upon the George Street premises.

The 72-hour order came into effect just after 12am today (Monday 29 August 2011).

Strike Force Goldsworthy, comprising detectives from The Rocks Local Area Command and specialist officers from Central Metropolitan region, has been set up to continue inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

It will also examine allegations hotel management ordered the crime scene be cleaned before police arrived.

It’s alleged the forensic examination of the crime scene was hampered as a result.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Strike Force Goldsworthy via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
