A man believed to be armed with a gun stole a car at Caloundra last night.

Around 10.30, a 49-year-old man had reversed his car out of a Williamson Lane car park. He left his car for a short time to close a gate when another man got into the car and locked the door.

The owner confronted the man and asked him to get out. The man refused and produced what is believed to be a hand gun before driving off in the car.

The stolen vehicle is a blue 75i model BMW sedan with QLD registration plates 059RQZ.

The vehicle last seen driving in the Caloundra area and the alleged driver is described as being Caucasian in appearance with short brown hair and a thin face, and wearing a blue jacket over a white shirt.

No one was injured during the incident and police investigations are continuing.
