Police are investigating an armed robbery at a hotel at St Peters last night.

About 10pm, two men with their faces covered jumped over a rear fence and entered the beer garden of the hotel on the Princes Highway.

The men, armed with a handgun and a knife, entered the main bar and unsuccessfully attempted to access the safe.

The men instead grabbed the till and left the hotel by again scaling the fence.

They left the scene in a white Subaru.

Police from Newtown Local Area Command established a crime scene and interviewed several patrons and employees. Nobody was injured.

Investigators will view CCTV in their bid to identify those involved.
