Police have charged a man with the attempted armed robbery of a bottle shop in Sydney’s southwest yesterday.

About 12.30pm (Sunday 12 February), a man entered the bottle shop on Mannix Parade at Warwick Farm and walked to the counter with a bottle of wine.

The man allegedly claimed to have a gun and demanded the 46-year-old employee hand over cash.

When the employee refused the man ran from the store.

Police from Liverpool Local Area Command established a crime scene and viewed CCTV from the business. A detailed description of the man was then circulated to all police in the area.

About 8pm, the man attended Liverpool Police Station and asked station staff for a pair of shoes as he was barefoot.

The man was soon recognised and arrested a short time after walking out of the station.

Police allegedly found a black toy plastic gun tucked into the waistband of the man’s pants.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted armed robbery and refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court later today.
