A man has been charged following a violent assault at a hotel in Coonabarabran.

About 5:30pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 February 2012), a 38-year-old man attempted to enter a hotel on John Street when he was allegedly asked to leave due to his level of intoxication.

Police have been told the man became involved in an altercation with the licensee inside the bar where he head butted him.

At the time of the incident the man was carrying a number of long neck bottles in a bag when he allegedly tackled the 55-year-old licensee forcing him against the bar.

During the incident the licensee fell onto a broken long neck bottle and sustained a serious laceration to his knee.

He was taken to Coonabarabran Hospital before being transferred to Dubbo Base Hospital for emergency treatment.

The 38-year-old man was arrested by police nearby and taken to Coonabarabran Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and fail to quit licensed premises.

He was refused bail to appear in Dubbo Local Court today (Thursday 16 February 2012).
