Police have charged a man over the alleged robbery of a bank in Sydney’s south west.

About 12.15pm yesterday (Thursday 15 March 2012), a 30-year-old man attended a bank on Canley Vale Road, Canley Heights.

Police allege the man produced a syringe and threatened a teller, who handed him an amount of cash.

He then allegedly threatened other tellers, but was not given any more cash before fleeing the scene.

Police from Cabramatta Local Area Command attended and patrolled the area.

About half an hour later, police spotted the 30-year-old entering a unit block on McBurney Road, Cabramatta.

After a short foot pursuit, the man was arrested and taken to Cabramatta Police Station. Police allegedly found an amount of cash in his possession.

He was charged with robbery armed with an offensive implement and refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (16 March 2012).
