Police from the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attempted armed robbery of a tobacconist in Berkley yesterday.

Two men, with their faces concealed and one armed with a firearm, entered the store on Winnima Way shortly after 7am (Monday 12 March 2012).

As the men jumped the counter, the 29-year-old female attendant managed to close the metal security door and separate herself from them.

The woman then contacted police and the men fled the store. They were last seen leaving in a white Holden Commodore that was later found burnt in a grass reserve on nearby Gallop Street.
