Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged a man in relation to 11 armed robberies over a four-week period throughout the Sydney metropolitan area earlier this year.
Strike Force Staughton was formed in April 2012 and comprises detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad and St Marys Local Area Command.
They have been investigating numerous armed robberies at licensed premises and fast food outlets throughout Sydney in April and May, with two people already arrested and charged with a number of offences. They remain before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, a third man was arrested at a business premises at Moorebank just after 9.30am today (Friday 15 June 2012).
The 43-year-old man from Ashfield was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with seven counts of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon and four counts of attempted robbery while armed with an offensive weapon. The charges relate to:
– The attempted robbery of a hotel on Parramatta Road, Roseville, on Thursday 12 April 2012;
– The attempted robbery of a hotel on the Princes Highway, Rockdale, on 13 April 2012;
– The robbery of a fast food outlet on Dunheved Road, Werrington, on 15 April 2012;
– The robbery of a club on Richmond Road, Kingswood, on 19 April 2012;
– The attempted robbery of a hotel on Victoria Road, Werrington, on 21 April 2012;
– The robbery of a hotel on the Princes Highway, Rockdale, on 24 April 2012;
– The attempted robbery of a hotel on Victoria Road, Rydalmere, on 27 April 2012;
– The robbery of a hotel on Victoria Road, Ermington, on 27 April 2012;
– The robbery of a hotel on Liverpool Road, Ashfield, on 2 May 2012;
– The robbery of a hotel on Burwood Road, Burwood, on 8 May 2012;
and – The robbery of a hotel on Canley Vale Road, Canley Vale, on 8 May 2012.
The man has been refused bail and is expected to face Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
