Police have arrested and charged a man in relation to the robbery of an inner Sydney newsagency yesterday (Wednesday 27 June 2012).
About 2.50pm yesterday, a man armed with a screwdriver entered the newsagency on Crown Street in Surry Hills and demanded money from the sales assistant.
An amount of cash was handed over and the armed man then left the scene on foot.
Police were contacted and attended the shop a short time later. An investigation into the matter commenced and at 10.45pm last night police arrested a 37-year-old man at a community centre in Unanderra.
He was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and was bail refused to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 28 June 2012).
