Police are investigating after a man attempted to rob a store at Chermside late this afternoon.

Around 4.45pm a man entered the Gympie Road business and produced a knife, demanding money.

The female store attendant refused at which point the man attempted to access the area behind the counter without success. The man then fled from the business empty handed and was last seen heading towards Gympie Road.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 175cm tall and of slim build. He was wearing a white baseball cap, sunglasses, a blue hooded jacket, jeans and white shoes and was carrying a dark backpack.

At the time of the incident a woman customer was also in the store. No one was physically injured.
