A man has been charged over an alleged attempted armed robbery in Sydney’s inner-west.
About 10.15am today (Monday 9 July 2012), a 20-year-old man entered a convenience store on Belmont Street, Alexandria, and allegedly threatened the attendant with a knife.
The shopkeeper picked up a stool and swung it at the man, who fled the scene empty handed.
Police from Redfern Local Area Command attended and commenced a search for the man.
He was sighted nearby and a short foot pursuit took place before the man was apprehended on McEvoy Street.
He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with attempted armed robbery and common assault
He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow (10 July).
