Detectives investigating numerous armed robberies upon Sydney metropolitan businesses during April and May this year have charged a man in relation to two of the incidents.

State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, together with St Marys Local Area Command, established Strike Force Staughton in April 2012 after robbers targeted a number of licensed premises, a fast-food outlet and a service station.

Four men are already before the courts as a result of Strike Force Staughton.

As a result of ongoing inquiries, detectives arrested an 18-year-old man at a residence in Union Street, Bass Hill, about 10.30am yesterday (Wednesday 25 July 2012).

Police will allege the man was in the getaway vehicle involved in the attempted armed robbery of a hotel in Haymarket and the armed robbery of a club in Lansvale on 10 May 2012.

Following his arrest, the man was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with attempted robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, and robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon (principal in the second degree).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on 20 September 2012.
