Police were quickly on the scene of an alleged armed robbery in Southbank last night.

Investigators were called to a supermarket in Clarendon Street around 9.30 after reports of an armed robbery in which a knife was produced.

Police arrested an 18-year-old North Melbourne man nearby.

He was charged with possess a controlled weapon, theft and assault and bailed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in December.
