Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at a supermarket in Heather Street, Bentleigh East.

Investigators have been told that two men entered the store around 7.15pm on Tuesday night.

They were wearing balaclavas, dark clothing, hooded tops and carrying machetes.

The men threatened staff and forced them to hand over cigarettes and cash before leaving the store.

They were last seen running through the supermarket car park.

Police have released an image of a man that they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.
