Police have arrested and charged four people in relation to the alleged robbery of a club on the Mid North Coast last month.
About 11.15pm on Wednesday 23 May 2012, three employees had just closed the club in Polwood Street, West Kempsey, when they were approached by four males in the car park. One was allegedly armed with a knife, and another with a stake.
It will be alleged that the employees were forced back into the club, where the offenders stole cash from a safe and some personal items before fleeing.
Thirty minutes after the incident, police stopped a utility in Dondingalong, south-west of Kempsey. The four male occupants allegedly ran from the vehicle into surrounding bushland.
Dog Squad officers subsequently located a 17-year-old youth, who is currently before the courts charged with robbery offences.
Investigations by Strike Force Mehi resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old man at Kempsey on 12 June 2012 and a 22-year-old man at Redfern on 19 June 2012. They have also been charged in relation to the alleged robbery.
Following further inquiries, police attended an address in Pipers Creek Road, Dondingalong, about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 27 June 2012).
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to Kempsey Police Station. He was charged with being a member of a criminal organisation, and four counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The man was refused bail to appear in Macksville Local Court today (Thursday 28 June 2012).
Strike Force Mehi comprises detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, and Coffs/Clarence and Mid North Coast Local Area Commands, and is investigating numerous robberies in those regions in recent months.
