Police have charged a man after two women were threatened during bag snatch robberies at Lidcombe earlier in the week.
About 8pm, Wednesday 7 November 2012, a woman parked her vehicle in the car park of a club on John Street, Lidcombe.
When she approached the lifts she was allegedly threatened by a man armed with a screwdriver.
The man grabbed the woman’s handbag and the pair became involved in a wrestle where the woman fell to the ground and was dragged several metres before releasing her grasp on her bag.
Another woman who came to her aid was also allegedly threatened by the man and forced to hand over her handbag.
The armed man then ran off with the bags and fled the scene in a stolen Holden Commodore.
About 5:30pm yesterday (Thursday 8 November 2012), detectives from Flemington Local Area Command attended a car park on Vine Street, Fairfield where they located a man sitting inside a stolen Holden Commodore.
When police approached the car the man allegedly started the ignition in an attempt to drive off. He was ordered out of the car at gunpoint and arrested by police.
The 31-year-old man was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with one count of take and drive conveyance and robbery armed with offensive weapon (x2).
He was refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 9 November 2012).
