Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery at a hotel in Glebe this morning.

About 4.15am (Saturday 9 August 2014), a 36-year-old worker was cleaning a premises on Glebe Point Road, when he heard a disturbance at the Bridge Road entrance to the hotel.

When he went to investigate, the worker was confronted by two men who forced entry through a set of glass doors.

One of the men was armed with a hammer and the pair demanded the man open the hotel safe.

The man broke free from the pair and ran towards the exit.

The two men chased him, before the armed man struck him in the head with the hammer.

The worker continued to run from the premises to the nearby police station, where he reported the incident.

The men fled the location empty handed and were last seen driving away in a black Subaru.

Officers from Leichhardt Local Area Command attended the hotel and established a crime scene.

The 36-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for a laceration to his head, before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Inquiries into the matter are continuing and detectives are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

The men have only been described as wearing dark clothing, balaclavas and gloves.
