Police are appealing for information following the armed robbery of a cake shop at Waverley yesterday.
About 2:40pm, Friday 6 April 2012, a woman was working in the shop on Albion Street when a man armed with a pistol entered the store.
Police have been told the man pointed the pistol at the shopkeeper and threatened her with the weapon while making demands for cash.
During the incident the woman was punched to the face and forced to open the register before the man helped himself to money and ran from the store along Hooper Street.
The woman sustained minor facial injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics.
Police from Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command attended the business and established a crime scene which was examined by officers from the Forensic Armed Robbery Unit.
Detectives from Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
They are looking for a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, 170cm tall with a thin build and wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans, black shoes and a baseball cap.
