Crimes Related to Jewellery Stores

Police have arrested a man in Mt Gambier following the smash and grab theft of a significant amount of jewellery from a Modbury shop last month.

At about 11.15am on Tuesday 18 April, two men entered the Modbury Triangle Shopping Centre on Main North East Road, throwing large rock at the front window of a jewellery store smashing the glass.

The two men then allegedly reached in and stole a total of 86 yellow and white gold diamond rings from a window display.  Holden Hill Police investigating the incident released CCTV images of the two men wanted over the incident.

On Thursday morning 11 May,  police patrols a searched a Mt Gambier house, locating one of the men sought over the theft.

A 42-year-old man from no fixed place was arrested and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and the theft in relation to the jewellery theft on 18 April, plus two unrelated recent thefts in Mt Gambier.

The arrested man has been refused court bail and will appear in court in June.

Holden Hill Detectives are still searching for the second man (pictured below) At this stage none of the stolen jewellery has been recovered.

Modbury jewellery suspect

Police are investigating following at attempted armed robbery in Brighton this morning.

It is believed a stolen Mercedes hatchback pulled up outside a jewellery store on Church Street, Brighton about 10.20am.

Four men, all with their faces covered and wearing dark clothing, got out of the car.

One man approached the front door of the business armed with a sledge hammer and attempted to smash it open.

When a security guard approached the door from inside the business, the man retreated.

All four men fled the scene in the stolen car and were last seen driving along Carpenter Street towards North Road.

The stolen car is believed to be a blue-silver coloured hatchback with Queensland registration plates.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police have charged a 17-year-old youth following an armed robbery at a jewellery store in Canterbury last month.

During the armed robbery, on 24 March, three men entered a Canterbury Road store at 1225pm before using machetes and hammers to smash open cabinets in the store.

The Dandenong youth has been charged with armed robbery and associated offences.

He has been remanded to appear at a Children’s Court at a later time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Glen Eira Bayside Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released new CCTV footage in relation to an Elsternwick jewellery store armed robbery in September.

Investigators have been told two men, one armed with a sledge-hammer and the other a handgun, entered the Riddell Parade store just after midday on 5 September 2016.

Once inside the store, the pair have threatened staff and smashed glass cabinets, stealing a quantity of jewellery before fleeing.

The two offenders got into a waiting stolen grey 2001 Mitsubishi Outlander station wagon, driven by a third offender.

The car drove south on Riddell Parade, then east on Rowan Street where one of the occupants got out and into another vehicle, believed to be a silver Mercedes sedan.

Both vehicles then left the area.

The Mitsubishi, registration YSF 086 was stolen during a daytime burglary in Diamond Creek on 31 August.

No shots were fired during the incident and two male and two female store attendants, aged in their 30s and 50s, were not physically injured.

The offenders are perceived to be aged in their mid-teens to early 20s, with thin builds and Australian accents.

Both men had their faces covered with what appeared to be t-shirts.

Investigators have released CCTV of a silver Mercedes sedan that they believe may be linked to the incident and urge anyone who may have information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at

Southern Metro Crime Team investigators have charged a third youth in relation to an alleged armed robbery at a Canterbury jewellery store last month.

Investigators have been told four men armed with machetes and sledgehammers allegedly broke into the jewellery store at 1.30pm on 11 January.

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy at his Cranbourne East home this morning.

He has been charged with one count of armed robbery and has been remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 17-year-old Dandenong South boy and an 18-year-old Epping man have already faced court charged with armed robbery offences.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to rob a jewellery store in Adelaide this afternoon.

At about 1pm, police were called to the Shiels Jewellers store in Rundle Mall after a man had attempted to steal jewellery from a display cabinet.

The man became aggressive, and three people including an off-duty police officer detained the man until patrols arrived.

The 37-year-old man from Wynn Vale was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and refuse name and address. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 8 March.

Police have arrested five males in relation to an armed robbery at a Toorak jewellery store last week.

It is alleged four males entered the Toorak Road business on 14 January just before 1pm.

A male staff member was injured during the incident and a large quantity of jewellery was allegedly stolen before the males fled in a vehicle.

A number of search warrants were executed at addresses in Shepparton, Mooroopna, Epping, Dandenong, Collingwood, Richmond and Preston.

Two 16-year-old Shepparton boys arrested in Shepparton on 19 January have been charged with armed robbery and possess firearm.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A further two 16-year-old boys from Epping and Richmond and a 17-year-old boy from Epping were arrested the following day and were each charged with armed robbery.

They will appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill said the community can be assured that the recent jewellery shop armed robberies have been subject to a thorough investigation which is ongoing.

“Police can assure the community that we are committed to investigating these incidents, identifying and arresting all those who are involved, whether it be those who plan or actively commit the offences.” he said.

Police are investigating an armed robbery at a jewellery store on Toorak Road in Toorak just before 1pm.

At this stage it is believed approximately four males of African appearance entered the store, at least one of them with a firearm.

A male staff member was struck to the head with the butt of a firearm and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

It is unknown at this stage what was stolen.

The males fled in a vehicle with a fifth male driving and a pursuit was initiated on Alexandra Avenue in South Yarra before being terminated around Punt Road in Richmond a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing and police are looking into whether this is linked to any other incidents.

 

A teenage girl has been arrested following a robbery at a jewellers in Rundle Mall this morning.

About 11.30am on Thursday 12 January, a woman allegedly entered the jewellery store, threatened staff with a knife and stole a ring.

Staff were not physically injured during the robbery.

As a result of investigations, police this afternoon arrested and charged a 17-year-old girl from Salisbury with aggravated robbery. She was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on 22 February.
