Three charged with 37 offences over nine armed robberies – Lake Macquarie Friday, 07 June 2019 10:06:51 AM

Police will address the media after three men were charged following an investigation into nine armed robberies in the Lake Macquarie region.

Between February and May 2019, police will allege in court that two men robbed nine bowling clubs and a golf clubhouse, while armed.

In two of the incidents, the man allegedly assaulted a cleaner with a hammer and a staff member with a metal pole.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of specialist tactical officers, arrested a 24-year-old man at Fishing Point just before 7am yesterday (Thursday 6 June 2019).

Shortly after, detectives executed search warrants at the Fishing Point property, a home in Rathmines and another home in Bolton Point, where a second man, aged 36, was arrested.

A third man, aged 27, was arrested in Maitland later the same day, where all three were taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with a combined total of 37 offences.

Investigations under Strike Force Bergs continue.

Newcastle City Police are appealing for public assistance, after an armed robbery at Newcastle this morning.

Around 9.30am (Thursday 18 April 2019), officers were called to a licensed premises on Station Street, Waratah.

Police have been told an unknown male entered the premises threatening patrons with a firearm.

He then fled the scene with a sum of cash.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a male acting suspiciously in the area between 9 and 10am this morning.

He is described as being approximately 180cm tall, with a solid build and dressed in dark clothing. His face was covered by a dark balaclava.

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a sports club is Sydney’s west last night.

About 11:50pm (Sunday 7 April 2019), a man – armed with a firearm– confronted two employees at a sports club on Elizabeth Drive, Bonnyrigg Heights, and demanded money.

The staff members complied, and the man left with an amount of money.

The staff were not physically injured.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police are searching for two men who robbed a tavern at Beenleigh at gunpoint in the early hours of this morning.

Around 1.50am two men armed with sawn off firearms entered the Distillery Road tavern and made demands for money obtaining cash from two female employees, aged 48 and 27 years, and a 42-year-old male patron of the business.

The men then demanded access to a number of poker machines where they obtained further money.

During the incident it appears one of the men discharged a firearm into the floor.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Both of the men are described as Caucasian in appearance, aged between 18 to 25 years and were wearing runners, track pants, dark coloured hoodies, gloves and their faces covered.

Police have appealed to the public for information after the armed robbery of a registered club at Coffs Harbour overnight.

Shortly after 11pm (Sunday 31 March 2019), four employees were working in a licensed premises which had ceased trading, on the Pacific Highway at Moonee Beach.

Three males, armed with a machete, a screw driver and a firearm forced entry to the premises and threatened the employees, forcing three to lie on the ground.

The fourth employee was forced to open a safe, and then made to lie on the floor.

A quantity of cash and personal possessions were stolen from the premises.

The offenders also stole a vehicle which they used to escape in.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District were called and established a crime scene. A second crime scene was established in Bucca Road where the stolen vehicle was located in bushland.

The three male offenders are only described as wearing black balaclavas, gloves and dark clothing.

Police have urged anyone with information about the armed robbery to come forward.

Police are investigating a robbery in the Lake Illawarra area.

About 8.40am today (Monday 18 March 2019) police were called to a club on Lake Avenue, Cringila, after two masked persons entered the club demanding money.

They threatened staff and were handed cash before fleeing the scene in a silver-coloured sedan.

No one was injured, however two staff members were treated for shock.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Detectives have commenced an investigation and inquiries continue. 

Detectives are investigating the armed robbery of tavern in Durack overnight.

Just before midnight two men, both armed with knives, entered the business on Inala Avenue.

The men demanded money from staff members before fleeing the tavern with a sum of cash and bottles of alcohol.

The men were last seen running towards Treeline Place.

No one was physically injured during the robbery.

One man is described as approximately 191cm tall, of a slim build, and wearing a balaclava, a navy-blue Nike hoodie with dark blue pants and white sneakers.

The other man is described as approximately 183cm tall, of a heavy build and wearing a balaclava, dark blue jumper and blue pants.

Both men are described as Pacific Islander in appearance.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Detectives are investigating after a hotel was robbed in Oonoonba last night.

Intital investigations suggest that a woman entered a bottle shop at the hotel on Abbott Street at 7.30pm and took two cartons of alcohol from a fridge.

The woman then left the business and walked into the carpark, and when she was followed by an employee, two men ran towards the attendant and one was armed with a knife.

The attendant went back inside the bottle shop and the trio were last seen running on Ireland Street.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

Investigations are continuing.

Police have arrested a man following a robbery at a hotel at Exeter earlier in the week.

Just before midnight on Sunday 3 March, a man armed with a knife and baseball bat threatened staff in the gaming room of the Exeter Hotel on Semaphore Road and stole cash.  He also stole cash and cards from a staff member’s purse before leaving through a rear door.

One of the staff members was hit with the bat during the robbery and was treated at the scene by paramedics.  

Police searched the area with the assistance of Police Dog Iggy, who picked up a track from the hotel, but lost the scent in Young Street.

Just after 9am on Thursday 7 March, detectives from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch attended a house in Seaton and arrested a 20-year-old man from Prospect.  The man has been charged with aggravated robbery.  He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Friday 8 March.
