Police have arrested a man following the alleged armed robbery of a service station in the state’s Shoalhaven region tonight less than one hour after the incident occurred.
About 6.20pm (Sunday 3 December 2017), police were called to the business on Prince Edward Avenue, Culburra Beach, after a report a man armed with a screwdriver and machete had allegedly threatened the console operator.
Police were told the man left the store with a sum of cash.
Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command established a crime scene and began canvassing the local area, with inquiries leading them to a property in Brighton Parade.
A perimeter was established and a 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later. He has been taken to Nowra Police Station.
Inquiries are continuing.

Police are investigating following the armed robbery of a service station near Mackay overnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate at around midnight a man entered the business on the Bruce Highway at Coningsby and approached the counter armed with a knife.
The man demanded money from a female staff member, before fleeing the with a sum of cash.
He left the scene with another unknown person who was waiting outside the business.
No one was physically injured during the robbery.
The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his early 20’s with a slim build, around 170- 180cm tall and was wearing a balaclava, a black long sleeved shirt, black shorts and no shoes.
The second person was also wearing a black long sleeved shirt and shorts and no shoes.
Police are investigating following an attempted armed robbery offence that occurred in Elimbah last night, November 24.
Around 7.50pm, a man armed with a machete entered a service station on Beerburrum Road, approached the store attendant and made demands for money.
The attendant threw a container at the man and chased him out of the store. He was last seen running south along a walking track.
Nothing was taken from the store and no-one was physically injured.
Investigations are ongoing.
Anyone who may have information in relation to this incident or who saw a man dressed in dark clothing in the area last night is urged to contact police.
A man will face court today charged over a series of alleged armed robberies in the Sydney metropolitan area this month.
Earlier this month, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Adderstone to investigate a series of armed robberies, which were believed to be linked.
In the first incident, a man entered a store on Hoxton Park Road, Prestons, armed with a firearm just before 9pm on Wednesday 8 November 2017. The man allegedly fired shots while threatening staff, before fleeing the scene empty handed.
Police were called to a second incident about 2.30am on Thursday 9 November 2017, and were told a man entered the service station on Wallgrove Grove, Eastern Creek, armed with a firearm. The man allegedly threatened an employee before stealing cash and cigarettes, and fleeing the scene.
A short time later, police were called to a service station on Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek, following reports a man armed with a firearm entered the store, allegedly threatened staff, and stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.
Investigators were told the man drove – or was driven – from each of the locations in a silver Mitsubishi Evolution.
About 3am on Friday 10 November 2017, a man allegedly armed with a firearm entered a service station at Liverpool, threatened the console operator, and stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot.
Local police established crime scenes at each of the locations, which were examined by specialist forensic officers.
About 10.20pm on Sunday 15 November 2017, police attempted to stop a silver Mitsubishi Evolution on Maxwells Avenue, Sadleir, and the driver failed to stop.
Officers initiated a pursuit, which ended after the Evolution crashed into a fully-marked Highway Patrol car.
The driver ran from the vehicle, and despite an extensive search of the area, he could not be located.
Following extensive investigations, Strike Force Adderstone detectives arrested a 24-year-old man on Wilson Road, Green Valley, about 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday 29 November 2017).
He was taken to Green Valley Police Station and charged with three counts of armed robbery with dangerous weapon, attempt armed robbery with dangerous weapon, two counts each of fire firearm in public place, use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order, and possess prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order; police pursuit- not stop-drive dangerously (Skye’s Law), and P2 driver exceed speed over 45km/h.
The Ashcroft man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court later today (Thursday 30 November 2017).
Investigations under Strike Force Adderstone are continuing.
Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery in Mayfield overnight.
Just before 3am (Thursday 30 November 2017), police were called to a service station on Maitland Road, Mayfield, after reports a man was trying to gain entry to the store.
Police have been told a man approached the locked glass doors and signalled the service attendant to open the doors.
When the attendant didn’t comply, the unknown man, armed with a knife began to kick the glass doors.
The door didn’t break and entry was not gained.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and a crime scene was established.
As investigations continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall with blonde hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit at the time of the incident.
Police have commenced an investigation following an armed robbery in Lake Macquarie.
Just before 9pm on Tuesday 28 November 2017, a man armed with a knife, entered a service station on Wilsons Road, Mount Hutton.
Police have been told the man threatened the store employee with the knife and demanded cash, before fleeing the scene with an amount of money.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
They would like to speak to a man who might be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being about 180-185cm tall, with olive skin and of a thin build. He was last seen wearing a blue beanie with white writing, a white bandana across his face, black leather jacket and dark pants.
Inquiries are continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Around 7.30am, a man entered the Kruger Parade store, approached the counter and produced what appeared to be a handgun.
He threatened the staff member and demanded money, however fled moments later empty-handed when the alarm was activated.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, late 30s, heavy build, with light hair.
He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt with a light-coloured print, black shorts and was carrying a small dark-coloured bag around his waist.
Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a service station at Heritage Park in the early hours of this morning.
Around 2.45am a woman has entered the Waller Road premises and produced a knife while demanding money from the store attendant. The 32-year-old male employee immediately locked himself in an adjoining room.
The woman climbed through the counter barrier and attempted to remove money from behind the counter but failed.
She left the scene without obtaining any cash or property.
The woman is described as being aged in her early 20’s, Caucasian, slim build with blonde long hair and was wearing a white shirt under a long black hooded jumper, black leggings and black shoes.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
