Police have charged two men following investigations into the alleged attempted armed robbery of a West End service station on Saturday afternoon, September 10.
It will be alleged a man entered the service station on Ingham Road around 3.20pm and approached a female staff member at the counter.
Police alleged the man then produced a syringe and made demands for money, but the staff member refused.
It will further be alleged the man fled the store on foot empty-handed, and was last seen running from the business with a second man.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
The men, aged 26 and 38, have been charged with two counts each of attempted armed robbery and enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Both men have appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court.

Northern Territory Police are calling for public assistance following an attempted armed robbery at a service station in Wanguri overnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland from Strike Force Trident said a man entered the service station last night just after 9pm.
“It is alleged the offender approached the console operator and lifted his shirt producing a knife concealed on his person,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bland said.
“He demanded the cash drawer, and when challenged by the console operator, the offender fled on a pushbike.”
The offender is described as being of Indigenous appearance and of slim build. He was last seen wearing a white cap with an AFL ‘Hawks’ logo, a light blue button-up shirt, white knee-length pants and khaki boots.
Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a service station in Guildford overnight.
About 10pm (Monday 12 September 2016) an employee was working in the storeroom of a service station on Guildford Road when a man entered.
He approached the counter and picked up a packet of chewing gum. He placed the gum on the counter and as the employee processed the transaction and opened the till, the man pulled a large kitchen knife from the pocket of his jumper.
The armed man reached across and tried to steal money from the till but was unable to reach. He threatened the employee with the knife and demanded cash but was unsuccessful.
As the employee hit the duress alarm the armed man stole his mobile phone that was on the counter and ran for the door.
He ran out of the service station and was seen heading west along Guildford Road.
Police from Rosehill attended the scene and commenced an investigation.
The armed man has been described to police as being Middle Eastern/Mediterranean in appearance, about 25-years-old with a medium build and wearing a grey hooded jumper.

Investigators have been told an unknown man walked into a service station on Plenty Road on Thursday 28 July about 12.30am.
The man approached the service station attendant armed with large silver machete and made demands for cash.
The attendant handed over a quantity of cash and then pressed a duress alarm.
Police have been told the man then exited the store heading north on Plenty Road.
Investigators have released CCTV footage and images of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said it is alleged that just before 2:30am, the four youths attended the service station armed with large rocks and a metal pole.
“The youths allegedly threatened a staff member before making off with a sum of cash and food.
“Police attended and following a review of CCTV footage, all four youths were identified and later arrested at a residence.”
The youths, aged between 13 and 16, were charged with aggravated robbery.
They will appear in Katherine Youth Justice Court on 9 September 2016.
Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery near Wagga Wagga yesterday where a man suffered a stab wound.
About 6.20pm on Sunday 4 September 2016, a man and two women were working at a service station on Ashmont Avenue at Ashmont.
A man, with his face covered, entered the kitchen of the premises and produced a knife, threatening the two women and demanding money.
The man then approached the offender and asked him to leave but a physical altercation ensued.
The man was able to force the offender from the service station and he was last seen running through a rear gate towards Callaghan Street.
At that time the man realised that he had been stabbed by the offender in the left shoulder during that altercation however the two women were not injured.
Emergency Services were called and the injured man was conveyed to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital where he was treated and later released.
Police from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command are now appealing for information to locate a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He has been described to police as having his head covered with a blue shirt and carried a knife.

Police will allege just after 5am a man entered the business armed with a knife and demanded money from the operator.
He allegedly stole cash and the till before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police conducted patrols of the area and located a man nearby who was taken into custody.
Officers were assisted by the SES in locating the weapon and stolen property.

Police are searching for a man who used a knife to try and rob a service station at Greenbank last night.
Around 9.05pm a man entered the Sheppards Drive business and made demands for money and cigarettes while armed with a knife.
The 38-year-old female store employee refused to hand over any money or property.
The offender then stabbed a small electronic screen on the counter before fleeing the premises empty handed.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
The man is described as being aged in his mid 20’s, Caucasian in appearance with a slim build and was wearing a grey hoodie, grey/blue long pants, white hat, white shoes, white gloves and a black shiny cloth across the lower half of his face.
Investigations are continuing.
