As a result of the investigations conducted immediately after the incident by Uniform Police on Sunday evening, and from continuing enquiries by Hobart CIB, several searches have been conducted and numerous arrests have been made.
These include:
- An 18 year old male from Glenorchy was arrested. He was formally charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of motor vehicle stealing. He was detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon.
 - A 14 year old male from Primrose Sands was arrested. He will be proceeded against via the Youth Justice Act in relation to one count of armed robbery, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of stealing, and one count of motor vehicle stealing.
 - A 28 year old male from Lutana was arrested, and released without charge at this stage of the investigation.
 - A 21 year old male from Berriedale was arrested, and released without charge at this stage of the investigation.
 
Police are currently following a specific line of enquiry and anticipate that further charges will be laid.
Hobart CIB would like to speak to anyone who may have information on the robbery or the stolen vehicle used in the crime. The vehicle was a red Ford Focus.
Just prior to 7.00pm on Sunday 2 June 2013 a male offender has entered the Big Bargain Bottleshop situated at Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay. The business was closing at the time and the only occupant was the male shop attendant.
The offender, who was armed with a filleting type knife at the time, has demanded monies from shop attendant, and has subsequently exited the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. He is believed to have fled the scene with several other persons in a red Ford Focus sedan registration EU2046, which was stolen from a residence in Elwick Road, Glenorchy on the evening of Thursday 30 May.
No injuries were received by the shop attendant as a result of the incident.
The offender is described as being approximately 170-175cm tall, Australian accent, of slim build, wearing a light coloured hoodie jacket, a dark balaclava or scarf, dark jeans, white gloves and white sneakers.
The stolen vehicle has also been seen in the Sorell and Midway Point areas in the past three (3) days.
Hobart CIB would like to speak to anyone who may have information on the robbery or the stolen vehicle.
At 7.10pm on Thursday 30thMay 2013 two males entered the Derwent Tavern on Old Main Road at Bridgewater. One of the males was armed with a firearm. The males stole a quantity of cash from the TOTE gaming area before fleeing the Tavern.
The vehicle used by the offenders was an early 90’s model Holden Commodore. The vehicle was white in colour but was poorly hand painted black.
The offenders are described as:
Offender 1: 175 – 180cm tall and of average build, wearing white sandshoes, dark blue/black overalls, white gloves, black hooded jumper underneath the overalls, and a dark green balaclava.
Offender 2: 175 – 180cm tall of stocky build wearing blue 1 piece disposable overalls with a hood, white shoes, dark gloves, dark balaclava carrying a firearm.
A number of patrons and staff were present but no persons were injured during this incident. Police are appealing to members of the public for any information they have in relation to this robbery, in particular information relating to the vehicle used.
At around 5.10am on Saturday 25 May 2013, two men entered the York Hotel on Main Road Granton, armed with a firearm.
The men demanded the location of a safe within the hotel, from the two occupants present at the time. They then attempted to remove the safe from the Hotel; this was later recovered by police.
The offenders are believed to have left the scene in a red Rover sedan.
Police are asking for members of the public who may have knowledge of those involved in the crime, or who may have seen the vehicle, either in the Hobart CBD or the Granton area during the early hours of the morning.
On the 23 April 2013, detectives from Fraud & e-Crime Investigation Services arrested and charged a 56 year old man from Sandy Bay with serious fraud offences after a lengthy investigation.
Police allege the man created a number of fictitious identities for the purpose of obtaining credit from financial institutions and utility services in excess of $150,000.
The man was bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court. Police investigations are continuing.
Bellerive Criminal Investigation Branch is seeking assistance from the public in locating a vehicle involved in a burglary (ram raid) committed at the United Service Station on Clarence Street about 4.55am on Tuesday 14/5/13.
The vehicle is a white Ford or Mazda dual cab utility that has distinct black or dark grey primer patches on the driver’s door, front right panel and rear right panel. The tail gate of the vehicle is also black.
The vehicle is displaying mainland number plates, 393JDF.
It was last seen in the Rosny Hill Road area about 5.00am heading in the direction of the Tasman Bridge.
Police are seeking information relative to an Armed Robbery committed at the Caltex Service Station on Regent Street, Sandy Bay.
Around 7:30pm last night, two offenders entered the service station with one male brandishing a firearm.
The offenders fled the area in possession of a quantity of cash and cigarettes.
At approximately 8pm on Tuesday 9thApril 2013 a male has been disturbed by a guest in a hostel room at the Launceston Backpackers. The male has fled from the hostel and guests have given chase to a near by street.
The male has then threatened the guests with a syringe prior to running from the area. No guests were injured in the incident.
Soon after police located a 41 year old Launceston male nearby and placed him under arrest.
The male has been detained for a Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday 10th April 2013.
Launceston business owners are being asked to ensure their premises are secure with thieves targeting 27 Launceston businesses in the past month stealing a “substantial” amount of cash.
“If your business premises has an alarm system – turn it on when you leave, don’t make it easy for burglars,” said Detective Sergeant Darren Turner.
“Detectives from LauncestonCDIare currently investigating a series of burglaries committed on businesses in the LauncestonCBDand Invermay over the past 4 weeks.
“These crimes are being committed at night, primarily between the hours of 10pm and 2am with money being the obvious target.”
Det. Sgt Turner said it was essential businesses were secured with good locks, alarm systems and security cameras were actually switched on and cash was not left accessible inside the premises.
“We would strongly advise that no money is kept on premises unless it adequately secured within a locked safe,” he said.
Detectives are interested in seeking the identity of the male person depicted in the photos after he was captured on surveillance cameras in the area of the Quadrant Mall Launceston on 21 March 2013.
During the early hours of Tuesday 26 March 2013 offenders have stolen a 1986 cream coloured Volvo sedan from Poets Road in West Hobart.
Later that morning at approximately 7.35am, the stolen vehicle parked outside the Lenah Valley Foodstore on Augusta Road in Lenah Valley, at the intersection with Giblin Street.
Two offenders from the stolen vehicle have then entered the store in the presence of the owner and demanded money. As a result they have forcibly removed a cash register from the service counter.
The offenders have then fled back to the vehicle with the cash register, and were last seen heading down Giblin Street in a northerly direction.
The stolen vehicle was recovered by police a short time later on Cheviot Road in West Moonah.
Stolen from the cash register was an undisclosed quantity of money.
No persons were injured during the incident.
Both offenders are both described as being:
- Wearing dark clothing
 - Wearing dark balaclava type covers over their heads
 - 160-175cm tall
 - Light to medium build
 - Australian accents
