Launceston CDI have today charged a 15 year old youth from Waverley with Burglary and stealing relating to the ram raid and unsuccessful theft of the Automatic Teller machine (ATM) at BP service station Newnham committed in the early hours of Monday morning 18 March 2013.
The youth was also charged with the motor vehicle stealing, attempted burglary and breach of police bail relating to the same incident.
The youth was bailed to appear at the Launceston Youth Justice Court at a later date.
In the early hours (approx 4.15am) of this morning, offenders have attempted to drive a stolen blue Mitsubishi triton ute through the front window at the BP at Invermay. This was unsuccessful.
A short time later (4.20am), the same offenders have driven the same ute through the front window of the BP at Newnham. They have then unsuccessfully attempted to steal the ATM from this location, causing considerable damage to the shop.
The stolen ute was located a short time later by police, on fire in Rocherlea.
Police believe that at least four offenders were involved.
Around 1.45pm this afternoon staff in the Derwent Park Pharmacy, on Main Road Glenorchy were confronted by a male person armed with a knife demanding money. Staff complied with this person’s demands who then left the store.
The Newsagency diagonally across the road has then been subjected to armed demands from a male person who after confronting staff has left following which a report has been received from MacDonald’s Restaurant advising a male person armed with a hatchet has threatened staff within that store.
Attending uniform police have then confronted a male person at the intersection of Derwent Park Road and Main Road Glenorchy and taken him into custody.
It is believed the offender, having left the Newsagency, has then visited K and D Hardware on Derwent Park Road before moving to MacDonald’s.
Investigating Detectives from Glenorchy CIB would like to speak to any person who may have seen a male person dressed in a brown top and blue jeans in the vicinity of Main Road Glenorchy between Amiens Avenue and Derwent Park between 1.45pm and 2pm today.
This person is approximately 6 foot tall and at one stage may have been carrying a small axe, similar to a hatchet. He could also have had a fluorescent jacket on, at a time closer to 2pm, which he did not have earlier.
The male person detained by police will appear in court either late this evening or more probably Sunday the 17th of March in the morning.
On Tuesday 12 March 2013 officers from Launceston Crime & Drug Investigations arrested and charged three people with aggravated armed robbery.
The charges relate to the armed robbery of a pizza delivery person in the Launceston suburb of Invermay overnight on 11 March 2013.
Two people aged 16 and a third person aged 18 were detained to appear in an out of hours court in Launceston.
At 6.30 pm on the 13 February 2013 two males armed with knifes entered the gaming area at Cooleys Hotel. Monies were demanded resulting in the offenders’ exiting with a quantity of cash. From enquires, police wish to speak with Jamie Reginald HALL. (picture attached)
Mr HALL has been identified as a person that may be able to assist with identifying persons involved.
On Wednesday 13/2/13 at about 6.45pm two male offenders armed with carving knives entered the gaming area of Cooley’s Hotel on Main Road Moonah where they have stolen a quantity of cash.
The offenders were both covered with hooded tops and balaclava’s and left the area in a white dual cab utility that was not bearing number plates.
Following an Armed Robbery on 28th January 2013 at the Valern Hotel, Moonah, police are calling for information that may assist with identifying the person depicted in the attached photographs.
He is described as 170cm – 175cm in height, medium to solid build. He spoke with a husky deep voice and was wearing yellow work boots or similar, dark possible denim trousers and a dark blue camping / spray proof jacket with attached hood. At the time he was carrying a large kitchen style carving knife in his right hand and left the Hotel carrying the stolen money in anANZwhite fabric banking bag.
The male has entered and exited the Hotel via a side entrance in the Station Street side of the Hotel and has run on foot across the car park towards Station Street.
At about 7:30pm on Saturday evening (24/11/12) a woman attempted to hold up the Tullah General Store & Service Station located on Murchison Highway.
The woman produced a syringe and demanded money from attendant. After a short verbal exchange the woman left empty handed.
At the time the woman had a female child, believed to be aged about 7 or 8 years old, in her company.
They left in an older, dark coloured, small 4 door sedan and headed towards the North West Coast.
The woman is described as being about 30-35, very skinny, average height, with dark hair down to her neck. She was wearing a grey hooded jumper and dark trousers.
The female child is described as being between 7-8, dark hair and average build & height.
At 4:20 pm on Thursday 22 November 2012, a male person disguising his appearance, entered the Glenorchy Newsagency at Glenorchy Centro Complex and brandished a knife at the female attendant whilst demanding money.
The offender grabbed a calico bag containing a quantiy of cash. The male offender then fled the complex and entered a taxi before being dropped off in the vicinity of Hull Street, Glenorchy. No person was physically injured during the commission of the crime.
As a result of investigations conducted, Detectives from GlenorchyCIBarrested a 26 year old male from West Moonah on Tuesday afternoon, 27 November 2012. The male was interviewed at Hobart Police Station and charged with one count of Armed Robbery and bailed with conditions to appear in the Hobart Court of Petty Sessions on Monday 7 January 2013.
At 7.20 pm on Sunday the 25th of November 2012 an armed robbery was committed at the 9/11 Bottleshop which is located on the Brooker Highway, Lutana.
A female offender has entered the store and presented a shortened firearm before demanding cash from the attendant. The female then exited the store with a quantity of cash and fled the scene.
At the time of the robbery no customers were present and no person was physical injured.
Police conducted an immediate search of the area and located the offender secreted in the front yard of a residence at Lutana.
Police recovered the shortened firearm along with all the cash stolen.
A 39 year old Lutana women has since been charged with one count of armed robbery and numerous firearm related offences, she has been detained to appear in court on the 26/11/2012.
