Detectives from GlenorchyCIBare investigating two Armed Robberies that have occurred overnight at the Caltex Service Station, 323 Main Road, Glenorchy.
The first incident occurred at approximately 11.45pm on Saturday 4 February 2012. A male person has entered the service station, produced a large knife (possibly a hunting knife) and demanded cash and cigarettes from the attendant. The male has been given some cash and cigarettes after which he immediately left the service station on foot.
The male is described as: 165-170cm tall, slim build, fair complexion, approximate age early 20’s, brown hair, with possible stubble on his face. He was wearing a blue baseball cap with white writing on the left hand side, denim jeans, and a black top with red sleeves which had white writing on the back of it (possibly a Bundaberg Rum logo)
The second incident occurred at approximately 5.45am this morning (Sunday 5 February 2012). Again a male person has entered the service station, produced what is described as a large 14 inch wooden handled “Bowie knife” and demanded money and cigarettes. The male was given some cash and cigarettes and has immediately left the service station on foot.
The male is described as: 170-175cm tall, slim build, wearing a red hoody windcheater with faded white logo or writing on the front, baggy jeans, approximate age early 20’s with brown hair with a mullet type style at the sides and rear.
Police are investigating both matters. There is surveillance footage of both incidents.
Police are appealing to any member of the public who may have information in connection with either robbery or any information as to the identity of any offender or any information in relation to the description of clothing worn.
Police would also like to hear from any member of the public who may have been in the vicinity of the Caltex Service Station either immediately before or immediately after either robbery who may have witnessed any person matching the above description.

At 10:13 pm on Saturday 28th January 2012 a serious aggravated armed robbery was committed at the Queens Head Hotel in North Hobart.
A 34 year old male was arrested at the scene after being apprehended by members of the public. The man was subsequently remanded in custody. A second offender fled the scene.
“Detectives from Hobart and Glenorchy CIB, with the support of specialist areas, have conducted extensive investigations this week to identify and locate the second offender,” said Detective Acting Inspetor Craig Joel.
At approximately 8.00 pm Thursday 2 February 2012 Detectives and uniform police arrested a 21 year old man at a house south of Sorell. The man has been charged with aggravated armed robbery, and other offences committed prior to robbery, including arson and burglary. The man will appear in court this morning.
At 10:15pm on Saturday 28th January, 2012, two males have entered the gaming area of the Queens Head Hotel, North Hobart, one armed with a firearm.
The males confronted a staff member and patron and whilst the armed male stood guard the other male removed a quantity of cash.
As the males left the hotel they were confronted by the licensee and staff members. After a short struggle one male was detained whilst the other male fled West on Newdegate Street.
All monies taken have been recovered, along with the firearm.
A patron and two staff members required medical attention at the scene for injuries sustained.
A 34 year old man has been charged with Aggravated Armed Robbery and will appear in court later today.
At about 9:50 pm on Wednesday December 7 2011, an armed robbery of a taxi driver occurred at the entrance to the Mowbray Racecourse off Jellico Street, Mowbray.
The driver of the taxi was a 55-year-old Newnham man. The taxi was stopped at the entrance when a man has approached and threatened the driver with a knife. The man has then fled on foot through the grounds of the racecourse, with an amount of cash.
The man is described as being about 19 years old, short, stocky, clean shaven with a ‘pudgy’ face. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper.
Detectives and uniform police attended the area and investigations commenced.
Late on Wednesday the 23rd of November 2011 detectives from Tasmania Police’s Fraud & e-Crime Investigation Services charged a 37-year-old St Helens woman with offences in relation to an alleged $478,000 fraud from the Department of Education.
It is alleged the woman, who had been employed in a finance role at two different schools, has stolen and forged school cheques over a number of years. It is also alleged the woman made false entries into the schools’ finance system to conceal the thefts.
The woman has been charged with 103 counts of stealing, 103 counts of insertion of false information as data, 103 counts of forgery, and 102 counts of uttering. She has been bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court on the 9th of January 2012.
Launceston Detectives today have arrested and charged a 15 year old male with the attempted aggravated armed robbery that occurred on 16 November 2011 at the Alanvale Store.
The youth will appear in the Launceston Youth Justice Court today.
The male is the second youth to be charged over the matter and Tasmania Police would like to thank all members of the local
Newnham community who assisted with their investigations.
Members of Launceston CIB today charged a 14 year old West Tamar male with the attempted armed robbery of the Alanvale Store.
It will be alleged that two males have entered the store at about 3.15pm on Wednesday 16 November 2011 and threatened a staff member with a knife whilst demanding cash.
No staff member was injured as a result.
The youth is due to appear in court at a later date.
At 3.15pm today two males entered the Alanvale Store on Thompsons Lane, Alanvale, and demanded money from the female shop attendant.
One of the males was armed with a knife.
The shop attendant refused their demands and the males fled the store, heading east on Thompsons Lane.
The males are described as 155cm and 160cm tall, both wearing blue balaclavas, black hooded tops, dark trousers and gloves, and carrying black backpacks.
The shop attendant was not injured.
At approximately 10.35pm on Thursday 10 November 2011, a man entered the Billabong Hotel in Brisbane Street, Launceston. The man was armed with a knife and demanded money from the manager. The manager was alone at the time as the hotel had closed for the night.
After receiving a quantity of cash the man has forced the manager into a cool room at knife point. At the time of being forced into the cool room the manager sustained an injury from the knife to his face.
It appears the man has attempted to lock the manager inside the cool room before leaving the hotel. Detective Senior Sergeant Ruth Orr said “Due to the manner in which this crime was committed police are seeking assistance from any members of the public who may have been in Brisbane Streetnear the Billabong Hotel at around 10.30pm last night”. Detective Senior Sergeant Orr described the man as being approximately 20 years of age, about 175cm tall and slim build. He was wearing a black cap, light coloured hooded top and black track pants.
At about 11am Wednesday 19 October 2011 an attempted robbery was committed at Clyde Street Invermay.
The incident involved a male attempting to grab the handbag of a female who was walking east on Clyde Street Invermay (near Pellows Saws and Mowers). The female had previously been walking north on Invermay Road after shopping at the Invermay Road IGA supermarket.
The offender is believed to have run through the rear yard of Pellows Saws and Mowers and then east on Clyde Street.
Description of male offender: fair skin, slim build, mid to late teens, wearing black jeans, and a black hooded top.
