A 36 year old Launceston man has been charged following an attempted robbery and series of burglaries of Launceston CBD premises.

And attempted robbery occurred in George Street Launceston at 4.30pm on Friday 25 May where a male offender threatened another man with a hammer.  Nothing was stolen.

Between 16 May 2018 and 29 May 2018, multiple business burglaries were committed on business premises in the Launceston CBD and surrounding areas of the city.

These included Elaia  Café, Red Cross, La Cantina Restaurant,  Animal Tuckerbox and  Youngs Vegie Shed.  Some of these premises were repeat victims during the period mentioned.

At 11pm on 30 May 2018, Launceston Detectives  apprehended a 36 year old Mayfield man in Boland Street Launceston.  At that time he was riding a stolen pushbike.

He has been interviewed and formally charges with Attempted Robbery in relation to the 25 May incident,  Burglary x 9, Attempted Burglary X 1 and Stealing x 8.

The man will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.

Launceston Police have arrested three men in relation to an alleged aggravated armed burglary at the Pardoe Supermarket Takeaway yesterday afternoon.

Police allege that around 4:20pm a man entered the takeaway store and demanded cash. When a customer confronted the man as he was leaving, the offender produced a knife and ran from the store. The men left the scene in a stolen white sports car.

The vehicle was later located in Deloraine and two men aged 22 and 26 were arrested nearby. They have been charged with Motor Vehicle Stealing, Aggravated Armed Robbery, Stealing and Trespass.

Two men are due to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.

A third man has been taken into custody a short time ago and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Launceston CIB is investigating an alleged aggravated armed robbery at the Mowbray Hotel and Sports Bay last night.

Two men entered the hotel armed with a small axe and a large knife, at approximately 8:55pm and gained entry behind the counter, striking a male employee to the head. They fled the scene with a quantity of cash and other property in a vehicle which police believe may be a white Holden VN Commodore ute.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at the Launceston General Hospital and has since been released.

At 10:28pm on Wednesday 7th March, 2018, a male youth entered the Caltex Service Station on Main Road, Moonah armed with scissors.

The youth approached the counter and demanded cash from the console operator which was refused.  The youth then fled on foot.

The youth was apprehended nearby.  The 13 year old male youth was formally charged with attempted armed robbery and detained for Court on 8/3/2018.

The console operator was not physically harmed during the incident.

Members of the Northern Criminal Investigation Branch have arrested a 16 year old male from Youngtown in relation to the armed robbery of the Eastside Newsagency located on Prosser’s Forrest Road, Ravenswood. This offence occurred at 6:40am on 01/01/2018.

The male is due to face an out of hour’s court session at 8pm this evening in Launceston.

Police would like to thank the community for their patience and assistance with the ongoing investigation.

Police have charged a 43 year old Claremont man in relation to two robberies committed on Saturday 2 December 2017.

It is alleged that the man entered both Subway Hobart and KFC Derwent Park on that day and threatened staff, making off on foot on each occasion with a quantity of cash.

Police have been actively searching for the man who subsequently presented himself to police where he was interviewed and detained to appear in court on Thursday 7 December 2017.

Anyone with any further information relating to these robberies or the movements of the man following these incidents should please contact police.

Police are investigating an attempted robbery at the Elimatta Hotel in Devonport last night.

Around 10pm a man approached a security guard and demanded money. He was unsuccessful and fled the area on a motorbike.

Police are seeking assistance from members of the public that may have seen or heard:

  • a motorbike in Lower Madden Street, Devonport, or in the general area of the Elimatta Hotel, around 10pm last night.
  • a man on a motorbike, loitering on Lower Madden Street around 8:30pm Sunday night.

Detectives investigating the Aggravated Armed Robbery which occurred at the Springfield Food Store at 7.35pm on Saturday evening are urging anyone with information to contact them.

If you saw anyone matching the following descriptions around the time of the incident, police would like to hear from you.

Alleged offender #1: Described as a man approximately 6’ in height of slim build. He was wearing a red hooded jumper under a black vest, blue chinos and white Nike runners.

Alleged offender #2:  Described as a man approximately 5’8” in height. He was wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants and black shoes.

Both men were wearing gloves and balaclavas.

Also anyone with information regarding the vehicle used is asked to contact police. The vehicle is described as a white sedan  – possibly a Ford Falcon.

Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred on Cadbury Road Claremont between Main Road and Dove Court around 6:35pm yesterday.

Investigation officers would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at that time and may have seen a man aged in his early 30’s, medium build, 175cm tall, with unshaven dark facial hair. He was wearing a dark hoody with the hood over his head and dark trackpants.  He also had a bandage on his left hand.

A 46-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with Armed Robbery, following an incident at the Caltex Service Station, Berriedale in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The alleged offender had entered the premises and threatened the attendant.

The attendant complied with the demands and was uninjured during the incident.

Police were called immediately and located the alleged offender a short time later close to a nearby hotel.

The man was interviewed, charged and remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
