Police are investigating after a man attempted to rob a retail outlet with a knife at Molendinar this afternoon.
Preliminary information suggests around 2.20pm a man entered the store on Southport-Nerang Road and demanded money from the attendant before producing a knife.
The female attendant was unable to open the register and the man fled the store empty-handed.
The man is described as having an olive or tanned complexion, around 40 to 50-years-old, approximately 178cm tall with a solid build.
Anyone who may have seen the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
Glen Eira Bayside Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a ram raid at a Bentleigh East toy store yesterday morning.
It is believed a dark coloured Nissan Navara Ute, with cancelled Victorian registration plates UFB036, reversed a makeshift ram into the front doors of Centre Road toy store about 4.50am before driving off.
A man, believed to be the driver, returned to the store about ten minutes later.
He attempted to gain entry through the damaged door but failed and fled empty handed.
Investigators believe the same man was involved in a theft from the store on Monday 9 January, just two days earlier, where a Lego toy set was stolen about 10am.
Investigators have released CCTV of both incidents in the hope that someone recognises the man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

A 26 year old Launceston man has been charged with armed robbery following an incident at Mowbray Newsagency yesterday.
Police were called to the Mowbray Newsagency in Invermay Road, Mowbray, about 4.30pm yesterday.
Police allege the man, armed with a homemade firearm, entered the newsagency and demanded money from the staff before fleeing on foot.
No staff or customers were injured during the incident.
The man has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery and breach of bail conditions.
The man was detained for court and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.

Just before 4pm on Wednesday 16 November 2016, a man entered a business on Pacific Street, Long Jetty.
Police have been told the man, armed with a knife, approached the counter and demanded cash from a staff member, before fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai sedan.
No one was injured during the incident.
Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced and investigation.

About 9.20pm (Monday 16 January 2017), a male armed with a knife entered a business on Robert Street, Rozelle, and demanded cash from staff.
He was given an amount of cash and a mobile phone before fleeing on foot from the rear of the premises.
The man was last seen running on The Crescent.
Police from Leichhardt Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
At this stage the man is only described as an Asian male, who was dressed in all black clothing.
Inquiries are continuing.

Northern Territory Police are calling for public assistance in relation to a stolen vehicle that was rammed into a business in Alice Springs overnight.
Detective Superintendent Michael White said police allege a group of young men stole a white Ford Ranger on 5 January and then used the vehicle ram into the business about 3:00am.

Today (Tuesday 10 January 2017) investigators arrested a 22-year-old man at a home in Finlay assisted by police from Deniliquin Local Area Command.
At Finlay Police Station he was later charged with armed robbery and refused bail.
The man appeared at court today but remains in custody.
He will reappear at Deniliquin Local Court on Tuesday 7 March 2017.
