Detectives from the Regional Investigation Unit and the Peel District Crime Team have

charged two juveniles – a 13 year old and a 16 year old with Being Armed in a Way that May

Cause Fear after they faked a series of armed robberies in Warnbro yesterday afternoon

 (Thursday 18 August, 2011).

It will be alleged that between 3.30pm and 3.45pm, the youths entered three separate stores

on Warnbro Sound Avenue – a fast food restaurant, pharmacy and supermarket.

In each instance, one of the youths was in possession of a toy firearm which he showed to

staff while making various demands. The second youth recorded the incidents on a mobile

 phone.

The youths left each store before staff could comply with any demands.

It will further alleged that they intended to post the recordings on You Tube.

Inspector Paul McMurtrie from the Peel Metropolitan District Office says:

“What is of serious concern is innocent members of the public are being subjected to a

harrowing experience in order for some misguided youths to make their social networking

pages more appealing. The victims are unaware that they are the brunt of a prank and may

experience the same levels of anxiety and stress as in a real event. This behaviour is totally

unacceptable and the WA Police will treat these acts as serious criminal offences.”

The youths, both from Warnbro will appear before the Rockingham Children’s Court on

 Wednesday 31 August 2011.
