Holden Hill Police are investigating the discovery of a card skimming device attached to an ATM at Prospect.

Just before 2.30pm on Wednesday 26 July, police were called to a bank at the North Park Shopping Centre on Main North Road after staff reported a card skimming device attached to their ATM.

Crime Scene investigators attended the scene and removed the device and investigations are continuing.

Police wish to remind everyone to be vigilant when using ATM’s and provide the following tips to avoid becoming a victim:

  • ATM’s located inside banks tend to be harder for suspects to target due to the abundance of staff on hand
  • check your bank statements
  • cover the key pad when entering your PIN
  • if you notice a loose fitting card slot or plastic bar, inform the bank immediately
  • report any unauthorised transactions to your bank and the police as soon as possible
  • to be vigilant when using ATM’s

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man after he allegedly attempted to rob a bank in Dandenong last week.

It is alleged the man attended the bank but fled once the bank’s security system was activated.

Detectives arrested a 24-year-old Doveton man yesterday.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery and remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Logan Detectives have charged a man in relation to the attempted armed robbery of a bank at Loganholme yesterday afternoon (June 7).

It is alleged during the robbery a man armed with a spear gun entered the Mandew Street premises and demanded cash from staff before leaving empty handed.

A 23-year-old man from Drewvale has been charged with attempted armed robbery, evade police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow (June 9).

Police are continuing their investigations into the attempted armed robbery of a bank at Loganholme yesterday afternoon (June 7).

Around 1.25pm, a man armed with a spear gun has entered the premises on Mandew Street and demanded cash from staff.

The man left the building a short time later empty handed after he failed to obtain any money.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Detectives are appealing to any members of the public who may have information in relation to this matter.

Sturt Detectives investigating the incident believe the skimming device was only attached to the ATM on Main Road for about an hour, before being detected around 3pm and then removed.

Police wish to remind everyone to be vigilant when using ATM’s, by covering the keypad when entering a PIN and if you see a loose fitting card slot or plastic bar, inform the bank immediately.

Two men have been arrested during early morning search warrants following an investigation into technology-enabled crime in Sydney.

In July 2016, detectives from the Fraud and Cybercrime Squad established Strike Force Tamarisk to investigate the use of Host Card Emulation (HCE) via ‘Tap and Pay’ applications to make fraudulent purchases across Sydney.

HCE is the technology dependent architecture that provides the exact virtual representation of various electronic banking cards using software only.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives executed search warrants at homes at Rockdale, West Ryde, Greystanes, Bankstown and Ultimo, and a storage facility at Camperdown, about 6am today (Tuesday 2 May 2017).

Detectives have also arrested two men – aged 22 and 24 – who have been taken to local police stations, where they are expected to be charged with fraud-related offences.

The search warrants are continuing and further information will be available later today.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a burglary at Taylors Hill overnight.

It is believed four unknown offenders in a Land Cruiser and a white Mazda van have attended a Calder park Drive shopping centre about 3.55am

The unknown offenders drove the four-wheel-drive through the doors of the shopping centre.

The Land Cruiser was then followed into the centre by the van.

The thieves removed an automated teller machine and loaded it into the van.

The offenders left in the Mazda van with the ATM.

This van is believed to have been stolen from Northcote between the 16 and 30 March and has not been recovered.

The Land Cruiser was left at the scene and will be examined by police.

Police are appealing for information following an attempted fraud at a financial institution in Nowra over the weekend.

About 8.20am (Saturday 22 April 2017) a 51-year-old man attended a financial institution on Kinghorne Street, Nowra and made a withdrawal from an automated teller machine (ATM)

After closer examination, the man noticed the automated teller machine had what appeared to be a skimming device attached to it.

Shortly after, the man attended Nowra Police Station and reported the incident.

Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command have commenced investigations.

A man has been charged over multiple alleged fraud offences in Sydney.

On Tuesday 7 February 2017, a 28-year-old man, who is a Lithuanian National, set up a bank account at a financial institution.

On Monday (27 February 2017), over $62,000 was deposited in the account via an unauthorised bank transfer from a business.

It is believed the organisation’s computer system had been compromised via malware which facilitated the unauthorised transaction.

On Tuesday (28 February 2017) the man attended numerous banks withdrawing the money.

About 12pm the same day, he attended a financial institution on George Street, Haymarket, where staff became suspicious and alerted police. However, the man left prior to police attendance.

About 3.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 1 March 2017), he attended the financial institution again, at which time he was arrested by detectives from Sydney City Local Area Command.

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with nine counts of obtain financial advantage by deception.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 2 March 2017).

Police have charged a man following an armed robbery at a bank in the state’s north earlier this month.

Just after 3pm on Wednesday 11 January 2017, a man entered a bank on River Street, Ballina, and demanded money from the teller.

Police have been told the man was armed with a blood filled syringe.

The teller handed over cash and the man fled. He was last seen on River Street.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

No one was injured during the incident.

Today (Wednesday 24 January 2016), detectives from Richmond Local Area Command travelled to Western Australia to speak to a 29-year-old man who had been detained for unrelated matters.

Detectives will apply for the extradition of the man from Western Australia in relation to the armed robbery of a Ballina bank on Wednesday 11 January 2017.
