Crimes related to Pharmacies

Regional Investigations Unit officers have charged a 45 year old Morley man over a number of armed robberies carried out throughout the metropolitan area in March and April 2013.

The man was arrested by police after he was allegedly driving a vehicle involved in a pursuit overnight.

It will be alleged the man carried out stealing, aggravated armed robberies, and armed

robbery offences on various businesses, including chemists, fast food outlets and bakeries.

During a number of incidents, the man was allegedly armed with weapons including a sledgehammer.

He has been charged with 4 x Aggravated Armed Robbery, 8 x Armed Robbery, 3 x Stealing and 1 x Attempted Armed Robbery.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today. Officers are also currently speaking to a 20 year old man in relation to a number of these

incidents.

A man is facing court this afternoon (Monday 8 April 2013) after being arrested half an hour after allegedly stealing methadone and sedatives from a western Sydney pharmacy.

About 7.40am today, a man entered the pharmacy on Good Street at Granville and threatened staff with a knife.

He demanded methadone and pills and was given a quantity of prescription drugs before leaving the pharmacy.

About 8.10am police arrested a 39-year-old Harris Park man near his Alice Street unit block. The prescription drugs were recovered at the unit block.

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

The 39-year-old was refused bail and due to appear in Parramatta Local Court this afternoon.

Regional Investigations Unit detectives are seeking information regarding three armed robberies which are possibly linked, on Sunday 31 March 2013. Just before 1pm, a man armed with a machete entered a pharmacy on Oxford Street Leederville via the back door and demanded drugs from the staff member. The staff member managed to run from the store and when he returned a few minutes later, the offender had fled. It appears nothing was stolen.

The second incident occurred around 1:15pm, when a man armed with a machete entered a pharmacy on Beaufort Street Highgate and demanded drugs. The staff member gave the man a sum of cash and he fled.

The third incident occurred about 3:25pm, when a man armed with a machete entered a pharmacy located on Wanneroo Road Joondanna.

The man demanded drugs and cash from staff and fled after being given a sum of cash. The man left the area in a white vehicle.

The offender in each incident is described as being 20 to 30 years of age, with fair skin and tanned complexion, 170 to 180cms tall, slim to medium build and unshaven. The offender was wearing dark pants and a light coloured hooded jacket.

Around 1.45pm this afternoon staff in the Derwent Park Pharmacy, on Main Road Glenorchy were confronted by a male person armed with a knife demanding money.  Staff complied with this person’s demands who then left the store.

The Newsagency diagonally across the road has then been subjected to armed demands from a male person who after confronting staff has left following which a report has been received from MacDonald’s Restaurant advising a male person armed with a hatchet has threatened staff within that store.

Attending uniform police have then confronted a male person at the intersection of Derwent Park Road and Main Road Glenorchy and taken him into custody.

It is believed the offender, having left the Newsagency, has then visited K and D Hardware on Derwent Park Road before moving to MacDonald’s.

Investigating Detectives from Glenorchy CIB would like to speak to any person who may have seen a male person dressed in a brown top and blue jeans in the vicinity of Main Road Glenorchy between Amiens Avenue and Derwent Park between 1.45pm and 2pm today.

This person is approximately 6 foot tall and at one stage may have been carrying a small axe, similar to a hatchet.  He could also have had a fluorescent jacket on, at a time closer to 2pm, which he did not have earlier.

The male person detained by police will appear in court either late this evening or more probably Sunday the 17th of March in the morning.

Regional Investigations Unit detectives have charged a woman in relation to two incidents at the same pharmacy in North Fremantle which occurred on Sunday 10 March 2013 and Monday 11 March 2013.

About 8:30am on Sunday a woman entered the pharmacy on Stirling Highway, North Fremantle and presented a prescription for a certain medication. While processing the order it was established the woman was no longer entitled to the medication, and when informed of that she took the medication and ran from the pharmacy. About 2:55pm yesterday afternoon the same woman entered the same pharmacy and walked directly behind the counter and threatened the Pharmacist with a knife, demanding the same medication. The Pharmacist complied with the demands and handed over an amount of medication.

Officers from Fremantle Detectives located the person of interest, and arrested her and handed her over to the Regional Investigations Unit for further investigation. It will be alleged the accused was responsible for both of the incidents above. A 30 year old woman from Alfred Cove has been charged with one count each of Stealing and Armed Robbery, and will appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 12 March 2013.

Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a pharmacy at Rockhampton this evening.

Around 8.10pm, a man armed with a knife has entered the Alma Street business and approached a female employee at the service counter.

He made demands for cash, at which time the female employee has called out to a male colleague.

The man fled the store without any cash.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Police have charged a man following the armed robbery of a pharmacy that occurred this morning.

Around 8.20am, a man entered the West Street business and police will allege he was armed with a syringe and made demands for medication.

Police will further allege he left the business with a quantity of medication and was located a short time later in Campbell Street.

A 29-year-old Toowoomba man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery and obstruct police.

He is due in Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police have released CCTV footage of two men who may be able to assist with inquiries into an armed robbery at a chemist at Carlton last weekend.

Shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday 17 February 2013, two men entered a shop on the Princes Highway armed with a metal object.

One of the men threatened a 28-year-old male pharmacist with the object and demanded medication, before taking some from a nearby shelf.

The other man punched a 22-year-old male customer, and took property from him, before both men fled the premises.

It is believed they were driving an old red hatchback with NSW registration plates starting with UMX.

olice from St George Local Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by the Forensic Armed Robbery Unit.

Investigators are appealing for public assistance to identify the two men depicted in the CCTV footage who may be able to assist them with their inquiries.

The first man depicted is described as 185cm to 190cm tall, 18 to 25 years of age with a thin build. He is shown wearing a dark-coloured jacket with red sleeves, a white cap and white shoes.

The second man depicted is described as being Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern appearance, 175cm to 180cm tall, 18 to 25 years of age, short brown hair with a medium build. He is shown wearing a blue jumper and dark grey pants.

Police are currently at the scene of an aggravated robbery in Elizabeth East.

At about 5.40pm a man armed with a knife entered the All Health chemist on Spruance Road and threatened staff, before stealing money and medication.

He fled on foot and was last seen running towards Main North Road. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s, and was wearing a black cap, blue jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black back pack.

Police are investigating after a man robbed a pharmacy in Booval last night.

Around 6pm, the man entered the South Station Road business, approached three female store employees and made demands for drugs.

The employees complied, handing the man a sum of items.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

The man is described as approximately 180cm tall with a heavy build. At the time of the offence, he was wearing dark blue pants, an orange and blue high visibility jacket, and light coloured running shoes. His head was covered by a t-shirt.

Investigations are continuing.
