Crimes relating to Ram Raids

Launceston Detectives are investigation a ‘ram raid’ that occurred at around 3am this morning at Radio Rentals, 148 Invermay Road, Invermay.

Police believe an early model silver Mercedes has reversed at speed into large service roller door at the side of the stated business. This caused substantial damage, however nothing was stolen.

At 6:10 am this morning (2 Oct 2014), a blue Subabu Impreza stolen from Claremont, reversed into the shop front of the Ashbolt Store at Ashbolt Road, Lutana. Three men entered the store and attempted to make off with the cash register and food goods prior to being challenged by the store owners who reside on site. Approximately $3000 damage was caused to the shop front and a small amount of money stolen.

The men fled the store in the stolen motor vehicle, that was later set alight and completely destroyed at the northern end of Bowen Road, Lutana. Uniform Police from across Southern District coordinated a response that led to the arrest of three men a short distance from where the motor vehicle was set alight.

Detectives from Glenorchy CIB conducted further investigations and subsequently interviewed a 31 year old man from Glenorchy, a 25 year old man and a 17 year old youth from Bridgewater. All three were jointly charged with Motor Vehicle Stealing, Unlawfully Set Fire to Property, Burglary and Stealing; and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in November.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated burglary which occurred in Fyshwick last night (Sunday August 24).

About 11.50pm, ACT Policing received a report that a Honda Prelude had collided with the front windows of Optus World on Wollongong Street, Fyshwick. The collision caused extensive damage to the shop front, with an initial estimated cost of $10,000.

Members of City Patrol attended and it was determined that several items had been stolen from the premises. AFP Forensics attended the location this morning (August 25) and accessed the crime scene, where the vehicle remained lodged into the shop front.

ACT Policing canvassed the area for witnesses and is seeking CCTV footage from surrounding businesses.

Detectives investigating two ram-raids in the Shoalhaven area have released images of a vehicle they believe may have been used in the robberies.

Just after 3am on Thursday 10 April 2014, a white-coloured late-model Toyota Hilux dual cab utility was stolen from parkland in Booderee. Along with the ute, a blue trailer with an attached hydraulic lift was stolen.

At the time of the theft, another white-coloured ute was captured on CCTV leaving the area with the stolen vehicle.

About 4.15am the same day (Thursday 10 April 2014), a service station owner was notified of an alarm activation at his shop on the Princes Highway in Falls Creek, just south of Nowra.

The owner attended the service station, which was closed at the time of the alarm activation, and found that it had been broken into.

A large safe containing cash was missing, as were a number of cartons of cigarettes. The property had also been seriously damaged.

Police were called to the scene, and an investigation commenced.

Four days later – shortly after 5am on Monday 14 April 2014 – police were called to a service station on the Princes Highway in Wandandian after reports of a ram-raid robbery.

Police were told two or three men in a white Toyota Hilux ute had reversed through the front door of the service station.

The men used chains and a sledgehammer to dislodge an in-store ATM and hoist it onto the rear of the ute.

Two staff members who interrupted the robbery were threatened with the sledge hammer and chain, before the men – who were disguised by black clothing and balaclavas – left the scene.

They were last seen heading north on the Princes Highway.

Detectives from the Shoalhaven Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Lagul to investigate the ram-raid robberies and believe the same group are responsible for both offences.

Investigators also believe that the late model white Toyota Hilux dual cab ute stolen from Booderee on the 10 April 2014, was used in both offences.

The ute and trailer have not yet been located.

Inquiries continue and anyone with information is urged to come forward.

ACT Policing is investigating two north side ram raids and an aggravated burglary which occurred early this morning (Wednesday 29 January).

About 2.35am Police identified a stolen white Holden Commodore driving along William Slim Drive, Giralang, however police lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later a ram raid involving the stolen vehicle was reported at the Kaleen Plaza, BWS. The front doors had been pushed in causing extensive damage and several bottles of alcohol were taken.

About 3.05am, an aggravated burglary was reported at a residence in Giralang. Two males were disturbed inside the premises with one of the male offenders alluding he had a gun before fleeing the premises. Police believe the offenders to be linked to the ram raids.

About 3.30am the stolen white Holden Commodore was located parked a short distance from the Kaleen Plaza. The vehicle was seized by police and transported to the Exhibition Management Centre.

After the vehicle was located a further ram raid was reported at the Evatt shops. CCTV vision of the incident showed that the ram raid occurred around 2.30am and the same stolen vehicle was used.

Baw Baw Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a ram raid at a Longwarry supermarket on Tuesday.

Two men arrived at the Kennedy Street store in a late-model red Commodore ute about 4.30am on 21 January, where one of them has scouted the area before returning to the car.

They have then reversed the ute through the front doors of the store, causing considerable damage to the front of the building.

One man has taken a small quantity of alcohol while his counterpart has attempted to raid the cigarette cabinet.

He has abandoned his efforts to open the cigarette cabinet after being distributed by two witnesses.

The duo have then got back into the car and driven off.

The ute used is believed to be a 2010 Holden VE model, with registration number XTW806, stolen from a Hammond Road address in Dandenong about 5.15pm on Tuesday.

This vehicle is distinctive in that it has a ‘pontiac’ front end – only 500 similar vehicles were produced – with sports wheels and a hard lid covering the back.

Detectives also believe this ute was one of two reported to be hooning in the Longwarry area prior to the ram raid.

Police would also like to speak to the drivers of the second vehicle, described as a purple or dark green, older-model Holden Statesman, possibly VR or VS model.

The driver is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late-20s or early-30s, about 180cm tall with a solid build and short dark blonde/light brown hair.

He was wearing a bright green mask, dark-coloured footwear, dark-coloured pants, a black top with a collar and a dark beanie.

The second man is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, with a thin to medium build and about 178cm tall.

He was wearing a green-coloured hoodie with a baseball cap worn under the hood and blue jeans.

Detectives from Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for public assistance to identify a man believed to be responsible for a series of burglaries on pharmacies.

The incidents have taken place at eight pharmacies across Boroondara, Monash, Stonington and Knox areas.

An attempted ram raid took place at a chemist on High Street Ashburton on 2 January.

The driver attempted to reverse into the front doors but was unsuccessful and drove away.

The man then travelled to Huntingdale Road in Huntingdale at 2.11am, reversed his vehicle into the front doors of a pharmacy and stole medication.

A further two ram raid burglaries were committed on 5 January at 2.35am in Burke Road Glen Iris and at 4.30am on Huntingdale Road Oakleigh East.

Medications were again stolen from the Oakleigh East business.

On Monday 6 January a vehicle with the same description also rammed into pharmacies in Box Hill South, Clayton South and Mitcham

The offender also attempted to gain entry to a pharmacy in Hawthorn but was unsuccessful.

It’s believed all incidents involved a white Toyota Hilux utility with a tray and a single cab, believed to be a 1990s model.

The offender is described in most incidents as wearing dark clothing, wearing something that covers his face and was carrying a black bag.

Detectives have released CCTV footage of the burglary in Middleborough Road in Box Hill South and the attempted burglary on Glenferrie Road Hawthorn on 6 January.
