Crimes Related to Taxi Drivers

Police have released still images of two men they believe could assist with inquiries into the assault and robbery of a taxi driver in Brighton-Le-Sands last August.

About 2.45am (Saturday, 18 August 2012), a taxi driver was conveying two men from Kings Cross to Brighton-Le-Sands.

The driver pulled up at Bay Street, Brighton-Le-Sands where the passengers got out of the vehicle, and reportedly refused to pay the fare.

The taxi driver got out of the vehicle and approached the two men on the footpath. He was repeatedly punched in the face and one of the men attempted to take his wallet from his pocket.

The two men were last seen fleeing in a southerly direction along The Grand Parade, Brighton-Le-Sands.

The taxi driver was treated by paramedics at the scene for a deep laceration to his right eye and significant swelling to his face. He later attended St George Hospital for further treatment.

Police would like to interview the two persons in the CCTV images in relation to the matter.

The first person depicted in the images is described as a man approximately173cm tall, aged in his twenties, with dark, shaved hair with a line shaved into the top left hand side of his forehead. He had a solid build. He is shown wearing a black t-shirt with the words ‘New York NY’ written in white, long black pants and black shoes.

The second person is a man aged in his mid-twenties, approximately 178cm tall and wearing a white t-shirt with blue writing, dark pants and white shoes. He had a solid build and a ‘sleeve’ tattoo on his right arm.

Both men were of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance.

Police are investigating after the armed robbery of a taxi driver at Taigum early this morning.

Around 2.15am a man and two women attended a car wash at a shopping centre carpark on Beams Road and attempted to break into a car.

Shortly afterwards, a taxi arrived and parked in the carpark before the two women approached it.

The women spoke to the driver before stealing cash and the male driver’s personal belongings. When the driver attempted to get out of the taxi the women threatened him with a metal bar.

The two women and the man left the scene in a black Mazda 3 hatchback, and were last seen driving along Beams Road

Investigations are continuing.

A taxi driver has been stabbed in the hand during an attempted robbery in Waterloo overnight.

About 9.20pm (Saturday 10 November 2012), the 28-year-old male taxi driver was sitting in his taxi on Young Street Waterloo.

At the time, he was sitting in the driver’s seat with the window down.

Police have been told a man approached the taxi driver and held a knife to his throat, demanding money.

The taxi driver tried to put his window up and as he did, the man allegedly thrust the knife towards his face.

The driver protected his face with his hands, and was allegedly stabbed in the left hand.

The man fled on foot and emergency services were notified.

The taxi driver was taken to Sydney Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

His vehicle was seized for forensic testing.

Detectives from Redfern Local Area Command are investigating the incident and would like to speak to a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is described as being either of Caucasian or Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, 20-25 years of age, about 190cm tall and with a thin build. At the time he was wearing ash coloured pants and a black jacket.

Kensington Detectives are seeking to identify four people who can assist in their inquiries into an aggravated robbery on a 29 year old male taxi driver on 10 October 2012. At around 9.30pm, the man’s taxi had broken down on the roundabout on Bolton Avenue Burswood, leading to the main entrance of the Crown Casino. He alighted from his car, before being approached by two males and two females. Three of the people then rummaged through his taxi and stole a number of the driver’s personal items. He was then struck over the head with a glass bottle, causing

him serious injury. As a result, he required staples to the top of his head and stitches to his left eye. Police are seeking to speak to the four people who are pictured to assist them with their inquiries into this matter. The three females are described as being dark skinned, aged around 16 years old, 160cm tall and of a slim build. One of the males is also described as being dark skinned, and of a slim build. He was also wearing a distinctive ‘Lakers’ baseball cap.

Police are appealing for witnesses following two armed robberies committed on taxi drivers in Melbourne’s north.
Investigators believe that the same offenders are responsible for two armed robberies in the past week.
The first armed robbery happened on Sunday 14 October in Coburg North, when a taxi was flagged down by two men at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Liverpool Street around 2am.
Police have been told the taxi was travelling south on Elizabeth Street when one of the men asked the taxi to pull over to urinate.
The taxi pulled over and it’s alleged the offender produced a knife and demanded the driver hand over his wallet.
The bandit took an amount of cash and credit cards from the wallet before fleeing the scene.
The second incident happened two days later in Thomastown when a taxi was flagged down in Gladstone Street by two men just before 3am.
The pair requested to go to Winnamurra Street in Thomastown. Once in Winnamurra Street, the front passenger produced a knife and demanded the driver hand over cash and his wallet.
The victim complied and both bandits fled the scene.
They were last seen running east towards Edgars Road to a waiting vehicle.
The offenders are believed to be aged in their 20s, and both were wearing hooded tops.
Detectives have released images of two men that may assist with their enquiries.

Police are investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed in Merrimac yesterday afternoon.

Around 5.30pm, the 33-year-old male driver attended Highfield Drive to pick up a passenger.

Before commencing the journey, the female passenger assaulted the driver with a solid object.

The driver got out of the car and walked a short distance down Highfield Drive in an attempt to remove himself from the situation.

When he returned, the female had fled the scene with a sum of cash.

Investigations are continuing.

Detectives investigating the alleged armed robberies of taxi and bus drivers in Sydney’s west earlier this month have arrested and charged four males.

Just after 8.30pm on Thursday 4 October, a taxi driver received a booking to collect four people from Hollingsworth Road at Marsden Park.

Police will allege four males entered the taxi before putting novelty masks on and threatening the driver with a knife. The group demanded money before fleeing with a sum of cash.

In the second incident, about 11.45pm on Saturday 6 October 2012, four males got on a bus at the Mt Druitt bus and rail interchange.

Three of the males got off the bus at Bidwill, however it’s alleged the fourth remained on it before threatening the male driver with a knife and stealing cash.

About 10pm on Sunday 7 October 2012, a bus collected two males on Carlisle Avenue at Bidwill.

Police will allege the two males threatened the driver with a knife, demanding he empty the till, before they fled with all his takings.

Detectives attached to Mt Druitt Local Area Command have been investigating all three incidents, which are alleged to be linked.

Following inquiries, and information received, police today (Thursday 11 October 2012) executed three search warrants at homes on Caparris Circuit, Melanie Street and Tongariro Terrace at Bidwill.

A number of items were seized.

Four males – aged 19, 17 and two aged 18 – were arrested at the homes and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where they were charged with multiple counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

All four were bail refused to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court tomorrow (Friday 12 October 2012).

Detectives in Sydney’s west are conducting inquiries after a taxi driver was robbed by five armed men at Marsden Park.

About 8pm yesterday (Thursday 4 October 2012), the taxi driver received a booking to pick up four people from Marsden Park caravan park and take them to Parramatta.

The cabbie stopped the vehicle a short distance from the caravan park in Hollinsworth Road after spotting a man beside the road.

The man confirmed he had made the booking and asked the driver to wait for the other passengers.

A short time later, the taxi driver was confronted by four other men armed with firearms and knives.

They demanded the victim’s wallet, mobile phone and cash before fleeing the scene.

The victim was not hurt but left shaken by the ordeal.

Local detectives are conducting inquiries into the incident.

They’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the armed robbery or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Hollinsworth Road, Marsden Park, overnight to come forward.

A man has been arrested following the armed robbery of a taxi driver at Southport on September 9.

About 10.20pm a taxi driver stopped outside a residence in Rose Street to collect a fare. A man entered the taxi and threatened the driver with a knife.

The man fled on foot along Railway Street after stealing cash and a mobile phone.

The taxi driver was not hurt.

A 22-year-old Labrador man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates court today.
