Crimes Related to Taxi Drivers

Police are appealing for public assistance following a robbery of a taxi driver in Waterloo yesterday.

About 10.25pm (Wednesday 18 October 2017) a taxi driver, aged 31, travelled to Parramatta Road, Glebe, to pick up a male aged between 15 and 20.

Whilst en-route along Pitt Street, Waterloo, the male passenger opened the door and fled without paying for his fare.

As the taxi driver got out of his vehicle to follow the man, he was assaulted by three males nearby.

A sum of cash was taken, and he sustained abrasions and bruising to his face, legs and body.

Officers attached to Redfern Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Raymond Terrace last week.

Shortly after 6.15pm (Saturday 15 July 2017) a 33-year-old taxi driver collected a man on Maitland Road, Mayfield.

As the taxi entered Morgan Crescent, Raymond Terrace, the man produced a knife and held it to the taxi driver’s throat and demanded cash.

The taxi driver complied, and the armed man left with a sum of cash.

The man was last seen running in a westerly direction along Morgan Street.

Police would like to speak to a man depicted in these images who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being male, aged in his 30s, approximately 177cm tall, of medium build with a beard, and tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Two men have been charged over the robbery and wounding of a taxi driver in Emerton on Monday.

About 8.20pm (Monday 17 July 2017) a 61-year-old taxi driver collected two men from a car park at Plumpton.

The men instructed the driver to take them to an address in Tregear however en route the pair instructed the driver towards an address in Emerton.

As the taxi entered Offenbach Crescent one of the men produced a knife and held it to the driver’s throat while demanding money.

The driver put his hands up to his throat to stop the knife and suffered cuts to his hands.

The two men then stole his mobile phone and money bag before running from the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his hands.

Police from Mt Druitt Local Area Command commenced inquiries, and images of the two men were released.

Yesterday (Thursday 20 July 2017), police arrested a 24-year-old man at an address on Helena Street, Emerton and another man, aged 23, at an address on Webber Street, Emerton.

They were taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where they were both charged with aggravated robbery with wounding.

They were refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today (Friday 21 July 2017).

Three men have been charged following a series of alleged armed robberies on taxi drivers in Melbourne’s west.

Altona North Embona Taskforce detectives have investigated a number of incidents where drivers have allegedly had cash and mobile phones stolen.

The incidents took place in suburbs including Yarraville, West Footscray and Travencore from 9 June to 2 July.

Three men have now been charged and each will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in the coming months.

A 19-year-old Footscray man has been charged with armed robbery and false imprisonment.

A 27-year-old Footscray man has been charged with armed robbery, possess firearm and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

A 19-year-old Ardeer man was charged with multiple counts of armed robbery,

commit indictable offence whilst on bail and attempted armed robbery.

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was robbed this morning in Woolloomooloo.

Police have been told about 6am (Thursday 22 June 2017), a 75-year-old man was driving his taxi in the Sydney CBD when two male passengers entered the vehicle.

The 75-year-old man drove the two men around Woolloomooloo before he was directed to stop on Harmer Street and threatened by the men with a firearm.

The driver was dragged from the car by the men and punched.

The two men left the scene in possession of cash and a bag, which were both stolen from the taxi.

The firearm was left in the taxi by the two men and was found to be a replica firearm bound with bright blue tape.

Officers from Kings Cross Local Area Command are investigating the incident and wish to speak to two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The first man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s and about 172cm tall. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and had blue or green paint on his face.

The second man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s and about 180cm tall. He was wearing a black hooded jumper.

Northern Territory Police have charged a 28-year-old man following the aggravated robbery of a taxi driver in Moil yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said around 2:00pm the taxi driver picked up the alleged offender from a location in Karama and conveyed him to Moil.

“The offender has then threatened the driver with an empty syringe before making off with a small sum of cash.

“Police attended and the offender was arrested on Termansen Street by Strike Force Trident members with assistance from the Dog Operation Unit.”

 

He was charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in Darwin Local Court today.

A man has been charged with nine alleged armed robberies of taxi drivers following investigations by Sydney City Detectives.

Police were called to two armed robberies on taxis on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 May 2017, in the Ultimo area. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash was stolen.

About 10pm on Wednesday (7 June 2017), police were called to the armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo. A knife was allegedly produced and cash was stolen.

Police were called to three armed robberies of taxi drivers on Thursday (8 June 2017) in the Glebe and Ultimo areas. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash and property was stolen.

About 8.10pm on Friday (9 June 2017), the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo was reported to police. A knife was allegedly produced, however there were no proceeds.

In two separate incidents yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2017), two armed robberies of taxi drivers in the Surry Hills area were reported to police. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash and property was stolen.

Officers from Sydney City Detectives investigated the incidents and believed them to be related.

Just before 9.45pm yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2017), a 20-year-old man attended Day Street Police Station and spoke to detectives.

The man was arrested and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon (x3), aggravated assault with intent to rob and inflict actual bodily harm (x4), demand property with menaces with intent to steal, and dishonestly obtain financial advantage.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 11 June 2017).

Police are appealing for information after the armed robbery of three taxi drivers in Sydney’s inner suburbs yesterday.

In the first incident, just before 6.30am (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 33, stopped on Bay Street, Glebe and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe Street.

Upon arriving, the man produced a knife and threatened the driver, demanding money.

The taxi driver complied and the man fled with his wallet.

The taxi driver was uninjured.

About 8pm (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 29, stopped at the intersection of Broadway and Bay Street, Ultimo, and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe.

The taxi driver was directed to stop on Jones Street and the man produced a knife, threatening the driver and demanding money.

The man stabbed the taxi driver causing a laceration to his lip.

The man took a wallet and backpack, as the taxi driver was able to get out and run off. The man fled with his wallet.

The taxi driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

In the third incident, just before 11pm (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 40, stopped at the intersection of Pitt and Goulburn Streets, Haymarket, and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe Street.

Upon arriving, the man produced a knife and threatened the driver, demanding money.

The taxi driver handed over cash and the man demanded his wallet.

During an altercation, the taxi driver sustained a laceration to his hand before the man fled.

The taxi driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Sydney Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Leichhardt and Sydney City Local Area Commands have launched an investigation and would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 20-30 years old, about 175-185cm tall, of a slim build, with brown/blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a grey hooded zip-up jumper, and grey pants with side pockets.

Based on the information at hand, investigators believe the incidents are linked to the robbery in Ultimo on Wednesday (7 June 2017).

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted armed robbery in Cairns overnight.

Preliminary investigations indicate at around 10:45pm a man approached a taxi on the corner of Loridan Drive and Adams Drive in Brinsmead.

The man produced a knife and demanded money from the taxi driver before attempting to open the taxi’s door.

The male taxi driver refused and drove away from the man before contacting police.

No one was physically injured during the attempted robbery.

The man is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance and was last seen wearing a white, sleeveless hooded jumper, black shorts and a cap.

Investigations are continuing.

Police have arrested a two teenagers after they allegedly robbed a taxi driver at Elizabeth Park last night.

Just before 8pm, Friday 19 May, the taxi driver was approached on Sullivan Road by a young male who threatened him with a knife and took a bag containing his earnings before running away on foot.

Thankfully the victim was not physically injured, and was able to report the incident to the Elizabeth Police Station. Patrols quickly attended the area and conducted a search locating the teen nearby who matched the description given by the victim.

Police arrested the 14-year-old Elizabeth Park youth, and a 19-year-old man also from Elizabeth Park who also took part in the robbery.

Both have been charged with aggravated robbery, the young offender was refused bail and will appear in court on Monday, while the man was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.
