Crimes Related to Taxi Drivers

Police have released images of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries after a taxi driver was threatened at knifepoint in Bundaberg South overnight.

At around 7.15pm a man entered a taxi at a shopping centre on Maryborough Street and requested to be transported to Goodwin Street.

Upon arriving at the destination the man directed the driver to circle around and stop on Buss Street near the intersection with Hunter Street.

The man then lent over the driver seat, produced a knife and demanded money.

The 43-year-old male taxi driver grabbed the knife and struggled with the man before disarming him.

The man then fled the scene on foot into the nearby drainage system.

The taxi driver sustained a minor cut to the finger as a result of the incident.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 20 to 30-years-old with short curly brown hair, a tattoo on the left side of his neck and wearing a blue long sleeve shirt or hoodie, bracelet and wedding band on left hand.

Police are urging anyone who may recognise the man in the images provided to come forward.

 

Police have arrested a woman after a taxi driver was stabbed in Lalor early this morning.

Police have been told a taxi was called to Sydney Crescent just after 2.30am.

It is alleged three female passengers got into the taxi and refused to pay the fare.

The driver, a 35-year-old Thomastown man sustained a stab wound to the back and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 21-year-old woman about 10.15am this morning at an address in Rosanna.

She was charged with intentionally cause injury and other assault charges.

The woman was remanded to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 22 March.

Glen Eira Bayside Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following two armed robberies in Bentleigh East earlier this month.

The alleged incidents, which both occurred on Centre Road, are as follows:

– Armed robbery of taxi driver near Alexander Street on 16 February

– Armed robbery at service station near Box Court on 7 February

A 24-year-old Bentleigh East man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

Police are investigating following an armed robbery on a taxi driver in Bentleigh East overnight.

The robbery took place on Centre Road when the taxi driver was pulled up on the side of the road just after 3am.

The victim, a 63-year-old Bentleigh East man, told investigators that he was sitting in his car when a man approached the car and spoke to him through the driver’s window.

The man was armed with a knife and demanded that the driver hand over his taking.

The victim handed over an amount of cash and the man ran off along Centre Road.

The man is described as being approximately 175cm tall and wearing dark clothing.

Police are investigating after a taxi driver was robbed by two men armed with a gun at Woodridge early this morning.

Preliminary information suggests around 12.30am the 33-year-old male driver travelled in a taxi to a service station on Wembley Road at Logan Central to collect a fare.

Two men entered the vehicle and requested they be taken to Slacks Creek.

The driver continued along through Woodridge before pulling over along Ewing Road to ask for further payment of the fare.

The men refused and exited the vehicle before one of them produced a firearm and pointed it at the driver.

The man took a sum of cash from the driver’s pocket and the pair then fled the scene.

No one was physically injured as a result of the incident.

One of the men is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his late 30s to early 40s with a tanned complexion, short brown balding hair and was wearing an orange and red jersey and black board shorts.

The second man is described as Aboriginal Torres Straight Islander in appearance, aged in his 40s with a slim build, around 165cm tall with light brown greying hair tied in a ponytail, a grey goatee, wearing a blue hooded jumper and carrying a black and red backpack.

Detectives are investigating the armed robbery of a ride sharing service driver that occurred in Runaway Bay last night.

Around 8.45pm a 39-year-old Carrara woman was parked in her car on Marine Parade at Biggera Waters when a masked man approached and entered the front passenger seat area.

The man was armed with a knife and demanded the woman drive him to Harbour Town.

The woman complied and as they drove along Morala Drive he ordered her to stop and give him money. She handed over a small amount of cash at which time he handcuffed the woman to the car’s steering wheel and searched the car for more money.

The man released her from the handcuffs and demanded she drive again, before ordering her to pull over outside a seafood shop on Frank Street where he then left the car.

He was last seen walking across a playground in the area towards the water.

The woman then drove to a nearby service station and contacted police. She suffered minor bruising as a result of the handcuffing.

The man is described as Caucasian in his early twenties with a fair complexion.

A subsequent search of the area failed to find the man.

Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in Manunda overnight.

At 11.10pm, the 63-year-old male driver was sitting in his taxi in the rear carpark of an Alfred Street shopping centre when a red hatchback pulled up alongside the vehicle.

A man exited the hatchback and walked towards the taxi demanding money while holding what appeared to be a firearm.

The taxi driver managed to reverse away from the man who returned to his hatchback and which was last seen on Koch Street.

The man is described as being Aboriginal in appearance, 175cm tall with a skinny build, and was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper and dark pants.

Investigations are continuing.

A 27 year Ravenswood man has been charged over an incident where a taxi driver was allegedly robbed at knifepoint in Mowbray on Thursday afternoon.

The man was charged with one count of armed robbery and was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 3 January.

Police are investigating following the robbery of a taxi driver at Southport early this morning.

Preliminary information suggests around 12.25am a 58-year-old man had stopped his taxi on Muir Street when another man came and smashed the driver’s side window with a hammer.

The man then threatened the driver, claiming he had a knife, and demanded money.

The victim complied and handed over a sum of cash and his mobile phone.

The man then opened the passenger door of the taxi however fled after the driver sounded the car horn.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 180cm tall with a slim build and was wearing a dark coloured hooded jumper.

The taxi driver was not injured as a result of the incident.

A 17-year-old male has been charged over the assault and robbery of a taxi driver in Waterloo last week.

On Wednesday 18 October 2017, a 31-year-old male taxi driver collected a passenger at a bus stop on Parramatta Road, Glebe.

He was directed to Pitt Street, Waterloo and on arriving at the destination the passenger opened the door and left without paying.

The taxi driver got out and chased the passenger however he was assaulted, suffering cuts and abrasions, and had an amount of cash stolen from his wallet.

The matter was reported to officers at Redfern Local Area Command and an investigation was commenced.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday 26 October 2017), officers arrested a 17-year-old male. He was taken to Redfern Police Station where he was charged with robbery with aggravation.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Children’s Court today (Friday 27 October 2017).

Inquiries continue.
