Police recently charged two men following a series of armed robberies across Melbourne.
The men were arrested by detectives on 21 and 22 May.
Sam Wathen was charged with nine counts of armed robbery and the 22-year-old Essendon man was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 13 August, 2014.
Michael Calleja was charged with four counts of armed robbery and the 24-year-old Airport West man will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 June.
The charges related to a number of alleged armed robberies including those at a service station in South Melbourne on 9 November and a service station in Kealba on 6 December last year, along with one at a service station in Brunswick East on 19 March, 2014.
A man has been charged over multiple robberies allegedly carried out in Sydney’s west during the past two months.
Officers from the Metropolitan Robbery Unit formed Strike Force Suberous to investigate armed robberies in south-western and north-western Sydney between 16 April 2014 and 12 May 2014.
The 20-year-old man was charged today with eight counts of robbery with an offensive weapon and three counts of having his face blackened/disguised with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The charges relate to the alleged:
• Armed robbery of a service station at Silverwater on Wednesday 16 April 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at Auburn on Thursday 17 April 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at West Ryde on Saturday 19 April 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at Regents Park Tuesday 22 April 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at North Ryde on Saturday 26 April 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at Kenthurst Thursday 1 May 2014;
• Attempted armed robbery of a service station at North Ryde on Monday 5 May 2014;
• Armed robbery of a restaurant at Rouse Hill also on Monday 5 May 2014;
• Attempted armed robbery at of a service station at Ermington on Thursday 8 May 2014;
• Armed robbery of a service station at McGraths Hill on Friday 9 May 2014;
• Attempted armed robbery of a service station at Dundas on Monday 12 May 2014;
The matters have been listed for mention in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 10 June 2014.
Police are investigating the armed robbery of a service station near Wagga Wagga last night.
About 11pm (Thursday 5 June), a man with his face covered and armed with a hammer smashed through a glass door of the service station on Bourke Street in Tolland.
The employee inside ran from the scene, before the armed man stole cash from the register.
Police from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command established a crime scene and searched the area for the robber without success.
The offender is described as being Caucasian appearance, 165 to 170cm tall, stocky/muscular build and wearing a dark blue jacket, black track pants, a light grey beanie and black shoes
A 21-year-old Park Holme man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a service station robbery earlier this month. Police will allege that the man attended the On the Run service station on Marion Road, Plympton at 9.25pm on 2 May armed with a knife and stole cigarettes. Following an investigation, Sturt CIB detectives arrested the man at 10am on Sunday 25 May. He was charged with aggravated robbery and possess prohibited weapon. Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery of a service station in Minto last night.
About 9.10pm (Wednesday 28 May 2014), a 21-year-old male attendant was at the counter of the shop, when a man entered.
The man approached and threatened the attendant with a hammer.
He demanded money and the attendant complied, handing over a sum of cash. The man then took a number of cigarette packets before running from the location.
Police were contacted and Macquarie Fields Local Area Command attended commencing an investigation.
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
Investigators would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
He was described as Caucasian appearance, 170cm tall, thin build, wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants and florescent blue runners.
Police are investigating an armed robbery of a Marsden service station by two men in the early hours of this morning.
Around 1.30am two men entered the Third Avenue business. One man held open the doors and the other demanded money and cigarettes from the 26-year-old male employee.
Soon after, the men fled north along Third Avenue with a sum of cash and cigarettes.
No one was physically injured and police investigations are continuing.
A 32-year-old Strathalbyn man was arrested last night over the attempted aggravated robbery of a Strathalbyn service station. It will be alleged the man entered the service station at about 9.30pm and demanded money. No weapon was produced and no money was handed over. The man fled on foot, empty-handed. Police searched the area with the assistance of a police dog patrol and officers located the suspect nearby. The arrested man was charged with attempted aggravated robbery. Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted armed robbery at a service station in Kew on Wednesday.
Investigators have been told a man entered the Willsmere Road store as a member of staff was mopping the floors just before 2am.
The man was wearing a pair of skins shorts over his face and holding a hand gun and demanded the staff member stop what he was doing.
The staff member said to the man he did not believe the weapon was real and refused to comply.
The man then left the store in a green Hyundai or similar and was last seen heading west on Earl Street.
Two other people are believed to have been in the car, one driving and the other in the back seat.
The offender is perceived to be of African appearance, 173cm tall with a thin build.
He was wearing a black windcheater with a Chicago Bulls logo on the front, black tracksuit pants with three white stripes down the side and white runners with an orange sole.
Police have released images and CCTV of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

Eastern Adelaide Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at a petrol station in Kensington last night. At about 3.20am a man armed with a handgun entered the service station on The Parade and demanded cash. The attendant handed over a small amount of money and the man fled on foot across the road. Patrols and a police dog attended the scene. It is believed the man got in a car nearby. The suspect is described as Caucasian, average build, about 180cm tall, in his mid-20s with an Australian accent. He was wearing a black hooded jumper with a blue square and white writing on the front, black track pants and blue sneakers. Two men have been charged after allegedly being caught in the act of holding up a service station on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
Just before 11pm yesterday (Monday 12 May 2014), two men aged 23 and 20, allegedly entered the service station on Mona Vale Road, St Ives, armed with knives.
It’s alleged the men threatened the male console operator and demanded cash.
As this was occurring, a Traffic and Highway Patrol officer pulled into the service station to fill up.
The officer saw the robbery in progress and immediately called for backup.
Further police arrived and surrounded the shop, while the two men locked themselves inside with the attendant.
The operator came out after a short while, however the two armed men stayed inside until just after midnight, when they were arrested without further incident.
They were taken to Hornsby Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The pair was refused bail to appear before Hornsby Local Court today (Tuesday 13 May 2014).
