Detectives from Box Hill Embona Taskforce are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a supermarket in Mount Waverley this morning.
Police have been told two men armed with a baseball bat and machete entered the supermarket on Blackburn Road just before 6.30am.
The pair approached staff and made threats to hand over cash.
The cashier handed over a quantity of cash and the men fled the scene in a waiting vehicle which was last seen heading west on Centreway.
The offenders had their faces covered at the time of the incident and one man is believed to be wearing a black and red lumber jacket.

Police recently charged two men following a series of armed robberies across Melbourne.
The men were arrested by detectives on 21 and 22 May.
Sam Wathen was charged with nine counts of armed robbery and the 22-year-old Essendon man was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 13 August, 2014.
Michael Calleja was charged with four counts of armed robbery and the 24-year-old Airport West man will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 June.
The charges related to a number of alleged armed robberies including those at a service station in South Melbourne on 9 November and a service station in Kealba on 6 December last year, along with one at a service station in Brunswick East on 19 March, 2014.
Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at a gaming venue this evening.
Police believe that four men drove to the O’Herns Road premises in a Holden sedan around 6.30pm.
Three men exited the car, entered the venue and menaced staff and patrons before accessing the cashiers area.
The men threatened a female staff member with a knife and forced her to hand over a quantity of cash.
The men then ran out of the venue, got back into the car and drove off.
All of those involved were wearing dark coloured clothing and hooded tops.
Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Pakenham this morning.
Police have been told that a man entered the shop on Eagle Drive at 11.39am.
The man approached the counter and made demands for cash threatening a male staff member with a firearm.
The staff member handed over a quantity of cash before the man left the premises and it is believed he rode off on a motorcycle.
He is described as about 180cm tall, with a muscular build & wearing a black balaclava and black jumper.
Detectives from the Fraud and Extortion Squad have arrested a man as part of an ongoing investigation into a $100 million fraud.
The 55-year-old Narre Warren man was arrested by police around 9am.
He has been interviewed by police and will be charged with fraud offences.
The man will appear at the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court shortly.
The fraud is alleged to have taken place over the past 10 years and relates to fraudulent loans secured by an accounting firm.
So far police have investigated over 40 incidents totalling around $100 million.
The investigation by the Fraud and Extortion Squad remains ongoing.
Victoria Police has today published its latest crime statistics.
The statistics compare the 12 months to March 2014 with the 12 months to March 2013.
The overall recorded crime rate across the state has increased by five per cent, measured as a rate per 100,000 of the population which is standard across Australia. The total number of offences recorded is up by 7.1 per cent (up 28,732 offences to a total of 434,497 offences).
Crime against the person has increased by 0.7 per cent as a rate per 100,000 population. In this category, assaults are up 0.3 per cent. Robbery is down 12.7 per cent and assault excluding family violence is down 2.5 per cent.
Crime against property has increased by two per cent as a rate per 100,000 population, with theft from motor vehicle up 3.4 per cent. Property damage is down 5.8 per cent and residential burglaries down 5.2 per cent.
Drug offences have increased by 15.5 per cent as a rate per 100,000 population.
Other crimes have increased by 19 per cent as a rate per 100,000 population, with the main driver being offences such as breaches of intervention orders.
Deputy Commissioner Lucinda Nolan said the rise in crime rates could be attributed to more justice procedure offences and drug offences.
However, a rise in deceptions, in the property crime category, was also impacting on overall crime rates, with an increase of around 11,600 offences over the past 12 months.

Police are appealing for public assistance following an armed robbery in Keilor East earlier this month.
The victim and five friends had been at a party on Keilor Park Drive celebrating a friends 18th birthday on Saturday 17 May.
The group of six left the party around 11.30pm before making their way down the walking track beside the Old Calder Highway, heading towards Keilor Village.
During their journey the group of six high school students were approached by the large group of around 15 males who targeted one and chased away the others.
A man held a knife to the 17-year-old victim’s throat and demanded his property.
A wallet and i-Phone were stolen whilst other offenders emptied his pockets.
During the ordeal a bottle was smashed over the victims head causing bruises and grazes.
He soon managed to break free and run from the scene before calling police.
The main offender is described as being a man of Pacific Islander or Asian in appearance, olive skin, dark coloured eyes, black short hair, fine moustache and around 17 to 20 years of age.
The other men involved in the incident are described as Asian or Islander in appearance.

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released CCTV vision after a man armed with a firearm and wearing a Fedora hat robbed a supermarket in Preston on Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators have been the offender entered the supermarket on Cramer Street about 3.40pm and approached a female staff member.
The offender pointed the firearm towards the employee and pushed it into her stomach, making demands for cash.
During this time, a number of other staff members approached the man, who then pointed the firearm towards them.
He stole an amount of cash from one of the registers and fled on foot.
Two male staff members chased the offender out of the store and into the car park.
The man was last seen running down a laneway behind the shop on High Street, near the intersection of Cramer Street.

The man is described as being Caucasian, aged between 30 and 40 years, approximately 180cm tall and solid build.
He was wearing a beige jumper, a black skivvy style top, jeans and black shoes.
The offender was also wearing a beige Fedora style hat with a black band.

Police have been told that a man entered the bank on Cheltenham Road between 1.30pm and 2pm on Tuesday 13 May.
The man approached a teller and handed over a note and demanded cash before repeating the words fifties, fifties.
The teller handed over a quantity of cash before the man left the premises and headed off along Cheltenham Road.
He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, unshaven, blue eyes with brown collar length hair and a medium build.
Investigators have released an image of a man that may assist with their enquiries.
