Crimes relating to Petrol Theft

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a petrol drive off in Berwick earlier this month.

A man attended a High Street service station where he filled up a white hatch back with fuel on Saturday 13 August about 8pm.

Police believe the vehicle was stolen from a burglary in Clayton on August 10.

Investigators have released images of the vehicle and a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

 

A Paralowie man has been arrested for numerous offences after he allegedly knocked a service station attendant to the ground while failing to pay for petrol yesterday at Salisbury Downs.

Just after 4pm on Saturday 2 April, a console operator at a service station on Winzor Street noticed a man filling a Ford sedan which had mud smeared over the number plates.

The female console operator went to confirm the registration number, but the man started the car and drove off without paying for the petrol, knocking the woman over and failing to stop.

The woman was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital for treatment to a minor head injury.

Elizabeth Police investigating the incident interviewed the registered owner. When she failed to identify the person driving her car, the 31-year-old woman from Paralowie was arrested.

Further enquiries led police to arrest a 34-year-old man from Paralowie with cause harm by dangerous driving, acts to endanger life, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, fail to stop after an accident and theft of petrol.

The arrested man was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A police car has been rammed following an armed robbery in Balranald in the state’s south-west.

Between 5.15pm and 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday 4 February 2016), a male and female attended a service station on the Sturt Highway, Balranald, where they filled their Jeep Cherokee with fuel before leaving without paying.

They then attended a supermarket on Market Street, Balranald, where they threatened staff with a large knife. They were handed an amount of cash before fleeing the scene in the vehicle, which also contained a small female child.

Police from Traffic and Highway Patrol sighted the car, which had stolen number plates, on the Sturt Highway near Euston and attempted to stop it. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the vehicle stopped and reversed into the pursuing highway patrol vehicle, causing extensive damage. The two officers in the police vehicle were uninjured.

The Cherokee then drove away and was located abandoned a short distance away. Despite an extensive search the occupants were not located.

It is believed they may have been picked up by interstate truck drivers.

Police from Deniliquin Local Area Command continue to make inquiries in relation to the incident.

A teenager has been charged and investigations continue following an alleged armed robbery of a service station in Wyong on the weekend.

About 11.10pm (Sunday 3 January 2016), a 47-year-old woman was working at a service station on Amy Close when a teenager walked into the premises, followed shortly after by two more teenage boys.

It will be alleged one of the teenage boys produced a firearm, before they threatened the attendant and demanded money.

They fled the scene a short time later, taking cash. The attendant was not injured during the incident.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command were called and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, yesterday (Tuesday 5 January 2016), police executed a search warrant at a home on Fishburn Crescent, Watanobbi, where they allegedly located a firearm.

The gun was seized for forensic examination.

A short time later, police arrested a 14-year-old boy at a home on Maple Circuit, Watanobbi.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station, where he was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.

He has been refused bail, and will appear at a children’s court today (Wednesday 6 January 2016).

Investigations into the incident continue.

Police are investigating petrol drive-offs in Melton last month.

A man attended a High Street service station where he filled up a silver Hyundai with fuel on 10 and 15 October.

He has then driven off in the vehicle, displaying allegedly stolen number plates, without paying.

Investigators have released images of the vehicle and a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Today, police arrested a man for 11 counts of petrol theft following a call for public assistance to identify him earlier this week.

Police will allege that the man was involved in a series of petrol drive-offs from service stations in the northern suburbs between June and September this year.

A 37-year-old man from Ingle Farm was charged with 11 counts of making off without payment, 11 counts of driving unlicenced and three counts of driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 25 November.

A man has been arrested over nine petrol thefts dating back to June last year.

Just after 1am this morning, a Salisbury police patrol stopped a man driving a Ford Explorer at Elizabeth North. The patrol was in the process of defecting the car when it located another set of number plates inside the vehicle.

Police checks on the found plates revealed they had been used in nine petrol drive-offs between June 2014 and April this year, with a value of more than $700 and all at the same service station at Smithfield.

The 33-year-old man from Elizabeth Vale was arrested and charged with nine counts of make off without payment.

Further enquiries revealed the arrested man was disqualified from driving while committing most of the petrol offences. He was further charged with seven counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of driving unlicensed.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 12 November where police will be applying for compensation on behalf of the petrol station.

Police are searching for a thief who allegedly stole petrol from a service station in Taylors Lakes earlier this month.

Police have been told a man driving a blue Holden VF Commodore pulled over at a service station on the corner of Kings Road and Melton Highway just before 6pm on Saturday 6 June.

It is believed the offender filled the car up with petrol worth more than $70 before driving away.

The thief is described as Caucasian in appearance, 175cm tall with black short hair.

He was wearing grey cargo pants with a navy blue ‘Western Bulldogs’ jumper.

Investigators believe the vehicle displayed green P-plates and stolen registration plates, WSN 887 and have released an image of a man that may assist with their enquiries.

Police are searching for a woman and a vehicle following a petrol drive off in Lynbrook earlier this month where a man was injured.

Investigators have been told that a white Toyota sedan has pulled into a petrol station on the Dandenong-Hastings Road around 9.30pm on 3 February.

A woman has filled the vehicle with petrol and a witness has then alerted staff to a possible theft.

The male staff member has then approached the vehicle, however the occupants have started to drive off.

The man then ended up on the hood of the car and fell off after the vehicle had travelled around 30m.

He sustained head and arm injuries and was conveyed to Dandenong Hospital.

Detectives from Casey Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and are appealing with anyone who has information about the incident or those involved to come forward.

The white Toyota sedan had a NSW number plate OKC 502, which had previously been reported stolen.

The female driver has been described as being of Caucasian appearance with brown hair that was possibly a wig.

Investigators have also released CCTV images of the woman and the vehicle.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested for petrol drive-offs on the State’s west coast today.

Police received reports of a silver Hyundai involved in two petrol drive-offs from service stations this morning.  The first at 8.55am from the Border Village Roadhouse, then at 10.40am from the Nullarbor Roadhouse.

A police patrol pulled over the suspect vehicle on Eyre Highway at Penong at 12.55pm.  The driver was arrested and charged with two counts of making off without payment.

Further investigation revealed the woman was also wanted for four separate counts of making off without payment in Adelaide late last year.

She was also charged with driving while unlicensed.

The arrested woman, of no fixed address, was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Ceduna Magistrates Court tomorrow.
